Dear Florencio:
This letter is in response to your e-mail of Wednesday, Apri14, 2012 concerning Unit 150 at
Villa Cortina. We have attached 2 sets of stamped drawings that include the following:
- Building type is an assumed Type VA, 1 hour which allows 3 stories
- Building occupancy is an R-2
- The building has three(3) stories
- There is no additional gas line,all in place including the fireplace
- Fireplace specifications are attached for a Kingman KFZDV3318N
- 50%High efficacy lighting is shown on Sheet E1.0, IECC 2009 Calculation
- Bath fans have an existing mechanical ventilation system that is not being changed.
The fireplace can either be a"B"vent or use the existing wood burning fireplace
vent.
In response to your first e-mail sent April 4, 2012 concerning asbestos, see attached letter from
Don Earthman, owner, approving the covering of the asbestos

Dear Building Department:
Attached is an application for a remodel of Unit 150 at Villa Cortina located at 0022 West
Meadow Drive. The interior of the unit will have the existing wall coverings removed and
remodeled with a wood drop ceiling and wood flooring. There az no structural changes to the
unit. The Building P,� it fee is figured at $50,000 or $6�� a�d the plan review fee at 65% of
the permit is $418C`�Ib-��a total of$1,063.01. The Construchon Use Tax at $SO,OOO less
$10,000 divided by 2 equals $20,000 times .04 or $800.00. This is a total of$1,863.01 fee.
Other permits for plumbing and electrical will be submitted separately.
The actual number of plumbing fixtures in the unit has been reduced by 3 since the third
bathroom has been removed which includes the water closet, sink, and bathtub with shower. The
electrical load calculations are attached as prepared by AEC Consultants, Inc.
The asbestos disturbance of the ceiling which will be funed down, will be less than the threshold
limits set by the Town of 32 square feet.
The design for the fire sprinkler system will be submitted separately.

Asbestos Testing &Abatement Requirements
Asbestos testing and abatement protects workers, homeowners, neighbors and emergency services responders from ex-
posure to harmful asbestos. It is your responsibility to be in compliance with the State. Please contact the State directly
for their requirements at the contact info listed below.
When is asbestos testing required?
ANY building projects disturbing more than these threshold levels of building materials require asbestos testing:
One- and Two-Family Dwellings: 32 square feet
All Others (commercial spaces, hotel rooms, etc): 160 square feet
Definition of a single-family dwelling: any dwelling unit that is used primarily for a single family, including
multi-family/condominium units, and fractional fee units.
Asbestos testing results must be provided with your application for a building permit.
Tests which identify POSITIVE results at more than 1% require abatement by a State-certified abatement contractor. The
clearance letter must be submitted to the Town of Vail before the building permit will be issued.

• The "1989 Ban" on asbestos-containing materials is commonly misunderstood. "In fact, in 1991 the U.S. Fifth Circuit
Court of Appeals vacated much of the so-called "Asbestos Ban and Phaseout" rule and remanded it to the EPA. Thus,
much of the original 1989 EPA ban on the U.S. manufacturing, importation, processing, or distribution in commerce
of many asbestos-containing product categories was set aside and did not take effect." - CDPHE
