General Application
Deck Preparation
Ahva,ys check that Chc ruof decl< is straight and true and thaC fascias are level to the deck. When installing field panels, check that the
roof line is square Co the rid;e; marking horizontal chalk lines every 4' will help in adjusting for roof decks that are not square. By
lowering a row (not more t.hu 1/16"), you cu make minor adjustments in the field panels to square up uneven roof sections.
Underlayments
The sheathing is to be covered witli a miiiimum of orte layer of Type 30 or two layers of 'Ipe 15 asphalt-saturated felt. When using two
layers of Type l: asphalt-saturaCed felt apply a 19" starter st:rip of underlayment over met;al drip edge at eaves. Use a 36" wide roll of
underlayment- laped over the 19" starter strip and remaining courses, overlap per underlayment mariufacturer. In valley areas, install
a ininunum of one layer of'Iype 30, 36" felt prior to installing vlley metal.
All underlayments are to be fasteiled to the roof deck with minimum 7/8"-long, corrosion-resistant roofing nails having 1" cliameter
plastic caps spaced at 12" on center on overlaps and in ihe field.
Custom-Bilt Metals • 13940 Magnolia Ave. Chino, CA 91710
Severe Climate
At all eaves, cwo layErs of Type 15 felt are to Ue applied shingle-faskiion, solid-cemented together wiCh pproved cementing maYerial
between the plies, estnding from the eave up the roof to a poinC 36" inside the exterior wall line of the building. In a non-rated roofing
system, severe climate underlayment ( such as self-adhervlg rubberized membrane) recognized in a current ICBO / ICC ES or NES
evaluation report may be used as an alternaCive to the two layers of lype 151'elt at the eaves.
For installations in regions of the country where snow and ice exist, potential hazards associated with falling snow and ice should be
addressed areas above walkwa,ys and driveways, etc., necd the most aCt:ention. Snow-retention devices, snow clips, etc, should be
installed per specification from an architect or engineer. Alwa,ys consult local building codes.
Roof Slope and Sheathing Requirements
DZinimum roof slope is 3:12. Vail shingles inust be installed over code compl, ying, rninimum 15/32" wood-b<ed slrictural sheathug.
Eave Drip Edge
Drip edge is to be applied to all eaves rior to installulg
the roofing felt and screved at 12" on ceiiter (see Fig. 1)
Lap wlderlayments on top of eave trim.
Rake edge is to be installed over the roofing felt. and
screwed 12" on center (see g. 3).
Apply sealant over all screw heads.
Notch and bend Eave Drip edge corner about an inch so that the
Rake edge can be inserted snugi,y at the corner (see Fig. 2)
.:ake Edge
Figure 3
When iclstalling a rake edge at the apex of a ridge, you will
need to cuC tlle inner area of the first piece to match the
vertical plane at the ridge apex. Be sure to leave a tab at a11 lap
<u-eas. Then bend the top edge of the second piece over the
ridge, laying it 11ush with the notched first piece. Points A and
B should mat;ch (see Fig. 4).
Custom-Bilt Metals • 13940 Magnolia Ave. Chino, CA 91710
When connecting upper and lower sections
of rake edge, ciC off approxunately 2"
of outer drip edge at an angle, square off
the exposed Cop surface on the lower section.
Leave the main wat.er c:hannel intact and install
under the upper uncut section. Add a sealant
where the two top exposed metals meet
(see Fig. 5).
Sidewall Flashings
Sidewall 1lashing, (see fig. 6), should be
apllic;d prior to any other roof-related
work, such as installing siding or counTer
flashing. This will mininiize foot traffic
once the c•oof panels are instlled.

Continuous Cleat
Chimney and Skylights
Chllnney and skylight tlashing insCallations vary. The use of a combination of
endwall, sidewall, saddle and continuous cicats may be required. (see Fig. 7)
If a cricket or diverter is being used, valley llashings may also be required.
More det<uleci instructions later in this manual.
For areas where shorter courses of panels,
pitch changes or endwalls occur, the use of
a continuous cleat will be required.
Inst.all the contimious cleat. by first: apl, yiitg
a bead of caulking or butyl tape, then screw
the cleal into place with a mininuini
of one screw per 12" (see Fig. S).

The shingles are itistalled from riaht to leFt, boctoin to top. The sc<un lines on the shingles are staggered from one course to anoCher.
To do this you will need to cut. starter pieces. The first. course requires no cut, the following three courses will be cut from the right side
leading edge. The fifth course will be a full shin;le and repeat. The cut, patCern is shown in gure 12 and will create a syiYUnetrical
effect on the roof. Save Che cut pieces for use in flnishing the left-hand side of the roof.
Start with a full panel, making sure tlle bot,tom cleat of the first row of panels uterlocks with the drip edge. Aplying slight. presstre,
insert Che lower right-hand coiner into tye rake edge flashing. Lseri the panel firmly, as it has a birilt-in guide that will deterniine how
far you can insert the anel. After tnaking sure thaC the bottom cleat has fully locked with the drip edge, apply three clips per shingle
(foiir clips for copper shingles), and screw into place with a#10 X 1 scc•ew (the screw should be of sufficient IengCh to penetrate 3/4"
into the sheaChing thickness or through t;he sheathing, whictiever is less).

METAL ILDING P UCTS
e,.
uLTRa-coolT"'
The new metal coatings that provide more
heat reflectivity than virtually any other
roofing material on the market.
DESCRIPTION
ULTRA-CooIT"" coatings are a premium two-coat system based on the same 70% PVDF
(Polyvinylidene Flouride) resin-based coating system supplied as Kynar 500 and
Hylar 5000. ULTRA-CooIT"^ coatings are highly reflective with a minimum solar reflectance of 25%, and 60% and above
on light colors. When applied and cured on properly prepared substrates, ULTRA-CoolT"" exhibits outstanding color stability,
chalk resistance, durability, abrasion resistance, chemical resistance and flexibility, while also providing outstanding heat
deflection and energy efficiency.
SUBSTRATES
• G-90 hot-dipped galvanized steel
• Zinc-aluminum coated steel
• Aluminum
USES
Residential and commercial roofing, wall panels, and building products that would benefit from heat deflection and lower
expansion and contraction, while at the same time requiring exceptional durability and exposure characteristics.
All ULTRA-CoolT"" colors meet the ENERGY STAR criteria for cool roofs.
COLOR AND GLOSS
ULTRA-CoolT"" is available in a wide range of colors, including the pre-formulated colors shown on the card and custom
colors, matched upon request. Specular Gloss is 25-35 at 60°. The gloss range for pearlescent coating is 20-30.
ULTRA-CooIT"" coatings are also available in thick film and low-gloss versions, (under 10 at an 85° angle), the gloss
having no effect on IR reflectivity.
