Reference: For April 4, 2012 DRB Meeting
Mr. Bill Gibson and Vail DRB Members:
Please find enclosed and attached pictures of samples of the different types of
stone which we have considered for our covered patio project. The stone that we
choose to use is Gallegos's Product Number #25, called "Colorado Buff Sandstone"
As we originally stated we believe the project as proposed is compliant with the
written town regulations which cover such additions. Additionally, we believe
the stone selected, the Colorado Buff Sandstone, adequately addresses the
questions raised at the March 21st meeting in terms of the blending of the
colors.
As the written regulations state, we believe the materials we have selected are
indeed "compatible with the design and materials" of our house, and -- in the
case of the roof, the specified shingles are identical to those utilized in the
main structure. As noted on one of the enclosed pictures, the stone colors
artistically blend with those of the brick and the brick's mortar. This belief
is also that of Professional Architect Duane Piper and Professional Designer
Wendy Feldman, both of Vail (Please see their attached written testimonials to
this effect.). The new patio, with its exposed aggregate floor, is integrally
connected with the existing patio and structure via a continuous contiguous
walkway, patio, and steps made of the same type and color of exposed aggregate.
Furthermore, -we would point out that the structure, as proposed, due to trees,
bushes, houses, and other obstacles is shielded and therefore barely visible from
the street side. And our neighbors, for whom it is visible, have stated in
writing that they fully appvove of the p;-ujecL. and, iri facL, h jve ! ,LdLud, also in
writing, that they believe our project enhances our property and theirs as well
as the overall neighborhood.
We respectfully ask for your support and the Design 'Review Board's approval of
this project so that we can proceed promptly with the next steps.
Thank you.
Respectfully,
Ann Louthan

project, as indicated in your attachment. We think they will be an improvement over the original plans
and materials which we had previously approved.

Bob,
Charles showed me the drawing of your proposed covered patio design. It looks lovely and, in my
opinion, will add to the attractiveness of our yard and the neighborhood.
Enjoy the skiing! NN

Dear Ann and Bob,
Thank you for calling me in to consult on your Outdoor Stone Enhancement Project. As
you know Natural Stone comes in many various colors. Each yard of Stone will have
wonderful tones and colors in them. It is my opinion the sample representation of Stone
that I saw for your project will beautifully compliment the exterior of your home.
The plans drawn show excellent use of space and design. I look forward to seeing the
project completed.
Best Regards,
