Dear Mr. Haeberle,
The accessible route from the West Lionshead Plaza (a.k.a Concert Hall Plaza) to the
Eagle Bahn Gondola & Lionshead Village is currently along a heated paver walk which
runs south along Lionshead Place, and then east to the Arrabelle main entry. From that
location the Eagle Bahn Gondola & Lionshead Village are accessible by various means.
An additional access to the Gondola & Lionshead Village exists but it crosses private
property (the West Lionshead Plaza Building) within a public easement. This access
requires the navigation of stairs. Currently there are no practical means to
accommodate a fully accessible route thru the private property due to vertical,
structural, and ownership constraints of the building itself. The Town of Vail's
Lionshead Master Plan for this private property suggests providing an accessible route
via an at grade connection from the Plaza to the Village.
The Current signage for the accessible route to the Eagle Bahn Gondola & Lionshead
Village from this location are provided at four locations to direct a disabled person along
the accessible route(See Map & Photos 2,3,4,5 attached). As a part of the West
Lionshead Plaza (Concert hall Plaza) Streetscape project additional accessible
improvements will be made within the limitations of the Town's property.
1. The Town will provide one additional signage location at the Bus Stop
location at the base of the West Lionshead Plaza Building entrance stairs
(See Map & Photo 1 attached). This will provide necessary signage once
a person arrives at the Plaza.
2. The Town will also provide two continuous heated paver walks along the
east and west sides of West Lionshead Plaza from the Landmark Building
to the Montaneros Building. This will provide safe and consistent walks
that do not currently exist. Appropriate crosswalks will also be provided.
In addition, there are several other means for a disabled person to access the Eagle
Bahn Gondola & Lionshead Village. (See Map attached-Red Lines for routes, Yellow
box outlines the approximate limits of the "Lionshead Village")
1. A person may access the Gondola & Lionshead Village by exiting the In-Town
bus at East Lionshead Circle instead of at the West Lionshead Plaza. This
location is equi distant to the center of the Gondola & Lionshead Village.
2. A person may drive and park in an accessible space in the Lionshead Parking
Garage and access the Gondola & Lionshead Village via the east entrance
along East Lionshead Circle.
3. A person may access the Gondola & Lionshead Village via the Gore Valley
Trail from both the east (Library) and west (Lionshead Place and Forest Rd)
directions.
At this time the Town is providing multiple points of accessible access to the Gondola &
Lionshead Village via Town owned property. At such time when the owner of the
private property chooses to redevelop, the Town will require compliance to the
Lionshead Master Plan, thus providing an additional accessible route from West
Lionshead Plaza.
