We have reviewed your project to replace the two existing 90%efticient Whirlpool 125 MBH gas-fired
furnaces with two new 97%etificient Carrier 80 MBH modulating furnaces. Our review process included
performing a site visit, review of heat loss calculations and review of equipment submittals. We have the
following summary review comments:
o The heat loss calculatio��submitted justifies the downsizing of the furnaces. The combined
output of the two furnaces is estimated to be 126 MBH whereas the total heat load is only 70
MBH.
o [t appears the existing 2"solid core PVC flue piping can be re-used to serve the new furnaces.
The existing piping is stamped with the ASTM D1785 stamp which is required by the new
furnaces. The vent lengths and pipe size are acceptable per the new manufacturer's vent tables.
o Two new 2" PVC pipes will need to be installed and routed to the outside for combustion air.
Terminate the flue and combustion air per the manufacturer's installation instructions.
. o The existing combustion air openi��gs ii�the mechanical room sho�ild be capped as they are no
lQnger being used.
o Install manual volume dampers on any outside air ductwork connections to the furnace return air
ducts, for balancing. Adjust to approximately 15%OSA, 85% RA.
o Install condensate neutralizers at each furnace,to neutralize the acidic condensate prior to
discharge into the sewer system.
o Verify proper operation of the existing condensate pump(s) ii�the mechanical room and replace
with new pump(s) if necessary. �
