BUILDING PERMIT ISSUANCE TIME FRAME
If this permit requires a Town of Vail Fire Department Approval, Engineer's (Public Works)
review and approval, a Planning Department review or Health Department review, and a
review by the Building Depaftment, the estimated time for a total review will take as long
as three (3) weeks.
All commercial (large or small) and all multi-family permits will have to follow the above
mentioned maximum requirements. Residential and small projects should take a lesser
amount of time. However, if residential or smaller projects impact the various above
mentioned departments with regard to necessary review, these projects may take five
(5) weeks to review and approve.
Every attempt will be made by this department to expedite this permit as soon as
possible.
I, the undersigned, understand the plan check procedure and time frame. I also
understand that if the permit is not picked up by the expiration date, that I must still pay
the plan check fee and that if I fail to do so it may affect future permits that I apply for.

PUBLE WOR.KS AND THE PUBLXC WAY PERMIT PROCESS
Horv it rclatcs to Building Perntits:
Fill out the atbched check list with the Buildinq Permit Application.
If yes was answered to any of the questions then a 'Public Way" permit is required. You
can pick up an application at eitrer Community Development, locabd at 75 SouUt Fronbge
Road or Public Works, locabd at 1309 Elkhorn Drive.
Notice sign-offs for utility companies. ALL utilities must field verifo (locate) respective
utilities prior to signing application. Some utility companies require up to 48 hours notice to
schedule a locab.
A construction traffic control/staging plan must be prepared on a sepamte sheet of paper.
An approved site plan may also be used. This plan will show locations of all traffic control
devices (signs, cones, etc.) and he work zone, (area of construction, sbging, etc.). This
plan will expire on November lst and will need to be resubmitted for considerction for
approval trrough he winter. Be aware Urat your resubmission for winter may be denied
depending on Ure locatjon of construction.
Skebh of work being performed must be submitted indicating dimensions (lengh, width
and depth of work). This may be drawn on the traffic control plan or a site plan for the job.
Submit completed application to the Public Work's office for review. If required, locabs will
be scheduled forthe Town of Vail electricians and irrigaton crew. The locates hke place in
the morning, but may require up to 48 hours to perform.
The Public Work's Construction Inspector will review the application and approve or deny
the permit. You will be contacted as to tre status and any requiremenE that may be
needed. Most permiB are released wiUrin 48 hours of being received, but please allow up
to one (1) week to process.
As soon as the permit is approved, Ure Building Deparlrnent will be notified, allowing the
"Building Permit" to be released. Please do not confuse the'Public Way Permit" with a
"Building Permit".
NOTE: The above process is for rruork in a public way ONLY. Public Way
Permits are valid only until November 15th. A new Public Way Permit is required
each year if work is not con'lplete. Re-application each l.trovember 15th does not
mean an automatic renewal. (

DRAINAGE AND CULVERT INSPECTIONS ARE REOUIRED BY PUBLIC WORKS!

The Town of Vail Building Depaftment has developed the following procedures to ensure that new
construction sites have adequately established proper drainage from building sites along and
adjacent to Town of Vail roads or streets.
The Town of Vail Public Works Depaftment will be required to inspect and approve drainage
adjacent to Town of Vail roads or streets and the installation of temporary or permanent culverts at
access points from the road or street onto the construction site. Such approval must be obtained
prior to any requests for inspection by the Town of Vail Building Department for footings,
temporary electrical or any other inspection. Please call Leonard Sandoval at 479-2198 to request
an inspection from the Public Works Department. Allow a minimum of 24 hour notice.
Also, the Town of Vail Public Works Department will be approving all final drainage and culvert
installation with resulting road patching as necessary. Such approval must be obtained prior to any
Final Certificate of Occupancv issuance.

CODE 5-2-10: DEPOSITS ON PUBLE WAYS PROHIBITED
o Unlawful deposib: Subject to subsection C drereof, lt is unlawful for any person to litter, track or
deposit or cause to be littered, tracked or deposited, sand, gravel, rocks, mud, ditt, snow, ice, or any
ofrer debris or material upon any street sidewalk, alley or public place, or any portion thereof.
D Notice; Abatement: The Director of Public Works may notify and require any person who violates or
causes another to violate the provision of subsection A hereof, or who has in Ure Director's employment
a person who violates or causes another to violate the same, top remove such sand, gravel, rock, mud,
dirt, snow, ice or any other debris or material within twenty four (24) hours after receipt of said notice
by dre Director of Public Works. In the event the person so notified does not comply with the notice
within the period of time herein specified, the Director of Public Works, or other auhorized agent, may
cause any such sand, gravel, rocks, mud, dirt, snow, ice, debris or any other material to be removed
from any street or alley at the expense of the notified.
tr Summons and Penalty: As an alternative to the notjce for removal provided in subsection B above,
any peson who violates or causes another to violate he same, may be issued a summons to appear
before fie Municipal Court of the Town for said violations, and upon being found guilty of a violation
hereunder be punished as provided in Section 1-4-1 of this code.
D Notice and Penalty: It is unlawful for any person to fail or refuse to comply with the notice of the
Director of Public Works as provlded in subsecUon B hereof, and any such person shall, in addition to
paymentof the expense of removal incurred by fre Directorof Public Works, as provided in subsection B
hereof, upon being found guilty of a violatjon hereunder, be punishable as provided in Section 1-4-1 of
this Code. (1997 Code: Ordinance 6 (1979).

the charges for towing and storage of such vehicle shall be charged to the owner of he vehicle in
