Enclosed, please find the application and the proposed plans for the Schink residence located at
5027 Main Gore Dr. in Vail Co.
We are proposing to take the existing wooden deck out and replace it with a Colorado Buf stone
patio. The dimensions will be the same and it will remain at ground level. We will also be
adding a snow melt system under the patio. The landscape will be repaired to the original design.

At your request, on May 24,29, and 3 I, 2001, we visited the construction site on Lot lA,
Blook 1, Bighorn Subdivision 5s Additioq 5027 Mqin Gore Drive, Vail, Eagle Courrty,
Colorado. The purpose of ow site visit, was to observe the soils exposed in the foundation
exoavation, and compare them with the findings and recornmendations of the Soil and
Foundation Investigation by Inter-Mountain Engineering, Ltd., Project No. 90190G, dated June
1990.
The excavation consisted oftrenches stepplng into the lot. The cuts ranged from three to
4 feet. The soil exposed at the bottom of the trenches was consistent with the findings and
recommen&tions of the above-named soil's report, horvever, the depth to the suitable bearing
soil was different. The soils exposed in the bottom of the completed foundation excavation
consisted of zuitable, reddish-brown, gravellSr sand to sandy gravel. We recommended that the
bottom ofthe excavation be compacted. Soft spots wcre notreported.
Follow the recommendations of the above-named soil's rcport during the remainder of t
he constuction, specifically the sections on drainage and grading.

review and approval/ a Planning Depaftment review or Health Department review, and a review
by the Building Depaftment, the estimated time for a total review will take as long as three (3)
weeks.
All commercial (large or small) and all multi-family permits will have to follow the above
mentioned maximum requirements. Residential and small projects should take a lesser amount
of time. However, if residential or smaller projects impact the various above mentioned
depaftments with regard to necessary review, these projects may also take three (3) weeks to
review and approve.

PUBLIC WORKS AND THE PUBLIC WAY PERMIT PROCESS

Fill out the attached check list with the Building Permit Application.
If yes was answered to any of the questions then a "Public Way" permit is required. You
can pick up an application at either Community Development, located at 75 South Frontage
Road or Public Works, located at 1309 Elkhorn Drive.
- Notice sign-offs for utility companies. ALL utilities must field verify (locate) respective
utilities prior to signing application. Some utility companies require up to 48 hours notice to
schedule a locate.
. A construction traffic control/staging plan must be prepared on a separate sheet of paper.
An approved site plan may also be used. This plan will show locations of all traffic control
devices (signs, cones, etc.) and the work zone, (area of construction, staging, etc.). This
plan will expire on November 1st and will need to be resubmitted for consideration for
approval through the winter. Be aware that your resubmission for winter may be denicd
depending on the location of construction.
Sketch of work being performed must be submitted indicating dimensions (length, width
and depth of work). This may be drawn on the traffic control plan or a site plan for the job.
Submit completed application to the Public Work's office for review. If required, locates will
be scheduled for the Town of Vail electricians and irrigation crew. The locates take place in
the morning, but may require up to 48 hours to perform.
The Public Work's Construction Inspector will review the application and approve or deny
the permit. You will be contacted as to the status and any requirements that may be
needed. Most permits are released within 48 hours of being received, but please allow up
to one (1) week to process.
As soon as the permit is approved, the Building Department will be notified, allowing the
"Building Permit" to be released. Please do not confuse the "Public Way Permit" with a
"Building Permit".
NOTE: The above process is for work in a public way ONLY. Public Way
Permits are valid only until November 15th. A new Public Way Permit is required
each year if work is not complete. Re-application each November 15th does not
mean an automatic renewal.

DRAINAGE AND CULVERT INSPECTIONS ARE-REOUIRED BY PUBLIC WORKS!
Please read and check off each of the items below:
r/ The Town of Vail Building DeparLment has developed the following procedures to
ensure that new construction sites have adequately established proper drainage
from building sites along and adjacent to T. own of Vail roads or sti'eets.
{ The Town of Vail Public Works Department will be required to inspect and approve
drainage adjacent to Town of Vail roads or streets and the installation of temporary
or permanent culvefts at access points from the road 0r street onto the construction
site. Such approval must be obtained prior to any requests for inspection by the
Town of Vail Building Department for footings, temporary electrical or any other
inspection. Please call Leonard Sandoval at479-2IgB to request an inspection from
the Public Works Depaftment. Allow a minimum of 24 hour notice.
y'Also, the Town of Vail Public Works Depaftment will be approving all final drainage
and culvert installation with resulting road patching as necessary. Such approval
must be obtained prior to any Final Certiflcate of Occupancv issuance.
