thc complctc revicw of the dc Bruin addition. The following information is neccssary prior to receiving a
building pcrmit:
A stamped topographic survey with 2'contour intcrvals.
Indicate thc cxisting roadway cdge of asphalt on thc survey with a spot clevation whcre the drive
connccts to thc road.
Plcasc providc greatcr dctail of the proposed grading to determine the rctaining wall hcight,
drainage around the homc and proposed driveway gradcs.
On the sitc plan, plcase provide top of wall clcvations for thc rctaining wall at both ends. Any wall
rvhich is 4 fcct or grcatcr in hcight must be dcsigned by a rcgistcred cnginccr.
Pleasc providc a spot elevation ofthe proposcd garage and storage areas to more accurately
clctcrminc proposed grade.

We are requesting your consideration for the following
variance to Town of Vail Zoning Ordinance 18.10.060,
(Singl-e Fanily Lot setbacks) .
The Howards would like to add a garage to the north ;
side of their home, at the existing parking area.
This j-nvolves a 4t'6u encroachment into the 15 ft.,
required side setback. Due to the shape and situation
of the existing site and its elements, (existing
spruce, Gore Creek, etc.), it would be extremely dif-
ficult to locate the new garage anywhere else on the
site. The only other possible location other than
what we are submittingr is to locate the garage to
the back,/east of the existing house. This would
destroy two existing spruce and ruin the adjacent
northern neighborrs veiw, (please see the attached
letterl .
The granting of this variance would have no effect
on existing utilities, public safety, light and air,
nor tran$portation, but it would allow the enclosure
of two automobiles from public veiw.

We are requesting your consideration for the following
variance to Town of Vail Zoning Ordinance 18.10.060'
(Single Family Lot Setbacks).
The Howards would like to add a garage to the north
side of their home, at the existing parking area.
This involves a 4'-6" encroachment into the 15 ft. '
required side setback. Due to the shape and situation
of the existing site and its elements' (existing
spruce, Gore Creek, etc.), it would be extremely dif-
ficult to locate the new garage anywhere else on the
site. The only other possible location other than
what we are submitting' is to locate the garage to
the back/east of the existing house. This would
destroy two existing spruce and ruin the adjacent
northern neighbor's veiw, (please see the attached
letter) .
The granting of this variance would have no effect
on existing utilities, public safety, light and air'
nor tran$portation, but it would allow the enclosure
of two automobiles from public veiw.

l.Je have a home at 5187 Main Gore Drive in East Vail and it
has been brought to our attention that 0r. Jim Horton, who
is the homeowner iust south of our property, is planning
to build a garage on his lot. The garage' as we
understand it, would be built on the back side of his
property.
As you are probably at{are, we just recently finally
approved plans for an extension of the deck area on the
sbirttr siae of our property. This was done to expand our
views and take advantage of the quality of the environment
in the area. If Dr. Horton was to build his garage where
planned, this would block our view and create a very
undesirable s ituati on.
