BUILDING PERMIT ISSUANCE TIME FRAME
If this permit requires a Town of Vail Fire Department Approval, Engineer's (Public Works)
review and approval, a Planning Department review or Health Department review, and a review
by the Building Department, the estimated time for a total review will take as long as three (3)
WEEKS.
All commercial (large or small) and all multi-family permits will have to follow the above
mentioned maximum requirements. Residential and small projects should take a lesser amount
of time. However, if residential or smaller projects impact the various above mentioned
departments with regard to necessary review, these projects may also take three (3) weeks to
review and approve.
Every attempt will be made by this department to expedite this permit as soon as possible.
I, the undersigned, understand the plan check procedure and time frame. I also understand
that if the permit is not picked up by the expiration date, that I must still pay the plan check fee
and that if I fail to do so it may affect future permits that I apply for.

To insure that all of the proposed construction has as little negative impact on the community and on our
guest as possible, the Town of Vail finds it imperative to create and implement the Vail Village and

Descripilon
Gamewell's Series 95 Analog Addressable
Sensors are designed to provide the highest
effectiveness by utilizing the latest
technology. The sensors includs both
lonization and Photoelectric Smoke Sensors
as well as a Thermal Sensor.
The sensor is designed for operation with
Gamewell's ldentiFlex 600 Series Analog
Addressabl6 control panels. AII of the sensors
inthe 56ries 95 range havethe same external
dimensions, with the housing of the lonization
and Photoelectric versions being identical.
The external alarm indication is by means of
a light-emitting diode (LED) easity visible
through the housing.
Thermal sensors ars rsadily distinguished
from smoke sensors by observing ths open
webs in lhe housing designed to allow the
free movement of air around the exposed
thermistor.

Each of the Series 95 Sensors is capable of
transmifting nol only its address but also the
chamber's analog value to the ldentiFlex 600
for analysis.
Oosration
The Series 95 Sensors form an integral part
of the 1F600 Series of Anatog Addressable
control panels. Connected to the system via
the analog circuit of the 1F600 conlrol panet.
the Series 95 Sensors continuously repon
the condition of thgir sensing chamber back to the control panel, where all of the
information is processed and analyzed..
The analog sensor constanfly monitors its
sensing chamber or element as well as its
internal electronics. The results are then
reported alongwith theunit's address through
the integral communications electronics
located in the sensor head.
Troublo and Alarm conditions of the Series
95 Sensors are actually determined at the
1F600 controlpanel. Thestatus information of
each sensor is analyzed for ofl normal
conditions by ths control panel. lf the sensor
reports a condition that matches its
programmed troubls signature, the 1F600
will report that ths sensor is in trouble and will
follow its programmed response sequence.
Likewise, if the status reported matches the
alarm signature, ths 1F600 will follow the
programmsd atarm response for the soecific
device in alarm. When a sensor is in alarm.
the integral LED in the sensor's housing will
lighl steady.
XP95-86R4
Programming
The only programming required at the Series
95 Sensors is for address setting. This is
accomplished through the uss of the XPert
Addressing Card. The card (available either
pre-programmed or blank for fi6ld
programming) is inserted into the sensor
base. When the sensor head is inserled into
the base, the address is automatically relayed
to the sensor. Changing the sensor does not
require additional programming since the
address remains on lhe XPert Card located
in the base. All othsr sansor soaciiic
prograrnming is accomplish€d at the 1F600
Control Panel.
For delailed operation, programming and
installalion, please r6fer to the 1F600
reference manual.
Standard Application
The 1F600 Series ot Analog Addressabls
Control Panels has been designed to
incorporat€ the Seri€s 95 Analog
Addressable Sensors into an integrated lils
safety system which will meet today's most
stringent requirements. The Series 95
Sensors ars specilically designed for
aoo lications where both individual
identitication and control of a sensor ars
reouirod.
ErEin€e/s Specifi cations
The contractor shallfurnish and install, whera
indicated on the plans, either dual chamber

General
Description
The Series LFll (TY2596) Residential
Concealed Pendent Sprinklers are
decorative, fast response, fusible sol-
der sprinklers designed for use in resi-
dential occupancies such as homes,
apartments, dormitories, and hotels.
The cover plate assembly conceals the
sprinkler operating components above
the ceiling. The llat profile of the cover
plate provides the optimum aestheti-
cally appealing sprinkler design. In ad-
dition, the concealed design of the Se-
ries LFll (TY2596) provides 1/4 irrch
(6,4 mm) vertical adjustment. This ad-
justment reduces the accuracy to
which the |xed pipe drops to the spnn-
klers must be cut to help assure a
perfect fit installation.
The Series LFll are to be used in wet
pipe residential sprinkler systems tor
one- and two-familV dwellinos and mo-
bile homes per NFen 13Dj wet pipe
residential sprinkler systems for resi-
dential occupancies up to and includ-
ing four stories in height per NFPA
13R; or, wet pipe sprinkler systems for
the residential portions of any occu-
pancy per NFPA 13.
The Series LFll (TY2596) has a 4.2
(60,5) K-factor that provides the re-
quired residentialllow rates at reouceo
pressures. enabling smaller pipe sizes
and water supp ly requirements,
The Series LFll (TY2596) has been
designed with heat sensitivity and water distribution characteristics
proven t0 help in the control of residen-
tial firas and lo improve the chance for
occupants to escape or be evacuated.
The Series LFll (TY?596) Residentiat
Concealed Pendent Sprinklers are
shipped with a Disposable Protactive
Cap. The Protective Cap is temporarily
removed for installation, and then it
can be replaced to help protect the
sprinkler while the ceiling is being in-

Operation
When exposed to heat from a fire, tho
Cover Plate, which is normally sol-
der€d to the Support Cup at three
points, falls away to expose the sprin-
kler Assembly. At this point the Deflec-
tor supported by the Arms drops down
to its operated position. The f usible lin k
of the Sorinkler Assemblv is com-
prised of two link halves thlt are sol-
dered together with a thin layer of sol-
der. When the rated temoerature is
reached, the solder melts and the two
link halves separate allowing the sprin-
kler to activate and flow water.
Design
Criteria
The Series LFll (TY2596) Flesidential
Concealed Pendent Sprinklers are UL
and C-UL Listed for Installation in ac-
cordance with the following criteria.
NOTE
When conditions exist that are outstde
the scope of the provided criteria, refer
to the Residential Sprinkler Deslgn
Guide TFP490 for the manulacturet's
recommendations that may be accept-
able to the Authority Having Jurisdic-
Ilon.
System Type, Only wet pipe systems
may be utilized.
Hydraulic Design. The minimum re-
quired sprinkler flow rate for systems
designed to NFPA 13D or NFPA 138
are given in Table A as a function of
temperature rating and the maximum
allowable coverage areas. The sprin-
kler flow rate is the minimum reouired
discharge Irom each of the total
nu m ber of "design sprinklers" as specl-
fied in NFPA 13D or NFPA 13R
For systems designed to NFPA 13, the
number ot design sprinklers is to be
the the four most hydraulically de-
manding sprinklers. The minimum re-
quired discharge from each of the four
sprinklers ts to be the greater of the
following:
. The flow rates given in Table A tor
NFPA 13D and 13R as a function of
temperature raling and lhe maxi-
mum allowable coverage area.
. A minimum discharge of 0.1 gpm/sq.
ft. over the "design area" comprised of the four most hydraulically de-
manding sprinklers for the actual
coverage areas being protected by
the four sorinklers.
Obstruction To Water Distribution.
Locations of sorinklers are to be in
accordance with the obstruction rules
ol NFPA 13 for residential sprinklers.
Operational Sensitivlty. The sprin-
klers are to be installed relative to the
ceiling mounting surtace as shown in
Fig ure 3.
Sprinkler Spacing. The m inimum
spacing between sprinklers is 8 feet
(2,4 m). The maximum spacing be-
tween sprinklers cannot exceed the
length of the coverage area (Ref. Table
A) being hydraulically calculated (e.9.,
maximum 12 feet for a 12 ft. x 12 ft.
coverago area, or 20 feet for a 20 ft. x
20 ft. coverage area).
Installation
The Series LFll (TY2596) must be in-
stalled in accordance with the follow-
ing instructions:
,VOIES
Damage to the fusible Link Assembly
during insta ation can be avoided by
handling the sprinklet by the lrame
arms only (i.e., do not apply prcssure
to the fusible link Assembly).
A leak tight 1/2 inch NPT sprinklerjoint
should be obtained with a toraue of 7
to 14 tt.lbs. (9,5 to 19,0 Nm). A maxi-
mum ot 21 ft.lbs. (28,5 Nm) ol torque is to be used to install sprinklers.
Higher levels of torque may distort the
sprinkler inlet with conseouent leak-
age ot impairment of the sprinkler.
Do not attemDt to com)ensate for in-
sufticient adjustment in an Escubneon
Plate by under- or overlightening the
Sprinkler. Beadjust the position of the
sprinkler fitting to suit.
Step 1. The sprinkler must only be
installed in the oendent oosition and
with the centerline of the sprinkler per
pendicular to the mounting surlace.
Step 2. Femove the Protective Cap.
Step 3, With pipe thread sealant ap-
plied to the pipe threads. and using
the W-Type 18 Wrench shown in Figure
2, install and tighten the Sprinkler/Sup-
port Cup Assembly into the fitting. The
W-Type '18 Wrench will accept a 112
inch ratchet drive.
Step 4. Replace the Protective Cap by
pushing it upwards until it bottoms out
against the Support Cup. The Protec-
tive Cap helps prevent damage to the
Deflector and Arms during ceiltng In-
stallation and/or dunng appljcation of

General
Description
The Series LFll (TY1334) Residential
Horizontal Sidewall Sprin kle rs are
decorative, fast response, f rangible
bulb sprinklers designed for use in
residential occupancies such as
homes, apartments, dormitories, and
hotels. When aesthetics and optimized
flow characteristics are the major con-
sideration, the Series LFlt (TY1334)
should be the first choice.
The Series LFll are to be used in wel
pipe residential sprinkler systems for
one- and two-family dwellings and mo-
bile homes per NFPA 13D; wet pipe
residenllal sprinkler systems for resi-
dential occupancies up to and includ-
ing four stories in height per NFpA
13R; or, wet pipe sprinkler systems for
the restdential portions of any occu-
pancy per NFPA 13.
The Serles LFll (TY1334) has a 4.2 (60,5) K-factor that provides the re-
quired residential flow rates al reouceo
pressures, enabling smaller prpe sizes
and water supply requirements.
The recessed version of ths Series
LFll (TY1334) rs intended tor use in
areas wilh finished walls. lt employs a
two-piece Style 20 Recessed Escurcn-
eon. The Recessed Escutcheon pro-
vjdes 1/4 inch (6,4 mm) of recessed
adjustment or up to 1/2 inch (12,7 mml ol total adjustment from the flush
mounting sur{ace position. The adjusf
menl provided by the Becessed Es-
cutcheon reduces the accuracy to
which the pipe nipples to the sprinklers
musl 0e cut.
The Series LFll (TY1334) has been
designsd with heat sensitivity and water distribution characteristics
proven to help in the control of residen-
tial fires and to improve the chance for
occLrpanls to escape or be evacuated.

Design
Criteria
The Series LFII (IY1334) Residential
Horizontal Sidewall Sprinklers are UL
and C-UL Listed lor installation in ac.
cordancs with lhe following critsria.
NOTE
When conditions exist that are outside
the scope ol the provided cnteria, refer
to the Residential Sprinkler Design
Guide TFP490 Ior the manufacturer's
rccommendations that may be accept-
abte to the local Authotity Having Ju-
risdiction.
System Type. Only wet pipe systems
may be utilized.
Hydraulic Oesign. The minimum re-
quired sprinkler flow rate for systems
designed to NFPA 13D or NFPA 13R
are given in Table A, B. C. and D as a
function of temperature rating and the
maximum allowable coverage areas.
The sprinkler tlow rate is the minimum
required discharge from each of the
total number of "design sprinklers' as
specified in NFPA 1 3D or NFPA 13R.
For systems designed to NFPA 13, the
number of design sprinklers is to be
lhe Four most hydraulically demanding
sprinklers. The minimum required dts-
charge from each of the four sprinklers
is to be the greater of the following:
. The flow rates given in Tables A. B,
C, and D for NFPA 13D and 13R as
a function of temperature rating and
the maximum allowable coveraoe
area.
. A minimum discharge of 0.1 gpm/sq.
ft. over the "design area" comprised of the four most hydraulicatly de-
manding sprinklers for the actual
coverage areas being protected by
the four sorinklers.
Obstruction To Water Distribution.
Locations of sprinkl€rs are to be in
accordance with the obstruction rules
of NFPA 13 for residential sprinklers.
Operational Sensitivity. The sprin-
klers are to be installed with an end-of-
deflector-boss to wall distance of 1-
3/8 to 6 inches or in the recessed po-
sition using only the Style 20 Re-
cessed Escutcheon as shown in
Figure 2.
In addition the top-of-deflector-to-ceil-
ing distance is to be within the range
(Ref. Table A, B, C, or D) being hydrau.
lically calculated.
Sprinkler Spacing. The minimum
spacing between sprinklers is I feet
(2,4 m). The maxtmum spacing be-
tween sprinklers cannot exceed the
width of the coverage area (Ref. Table
A) being hydraulically calculated (e.9.,
maximum 12 feet for a 12lt. x 12lt.
coverage area, or 16 feet for a 16 ft. x
20 tt. coverage area).
Installation
The Series LFll (TY1334) must be in-
stalled in accordanc€ with the follow-
ing instructions:
NOTES
Do not install any bulb type sprinkler if
the bulb is cracked or there is a loss of
liquid from the bulb. With the sorinkler
held horizontalty, a smatl air'bubble
should be present. The diameter of the
air bubble is approximately 1/16 inch
(1,6 mm).
A leak tight 1/2 inch NPT sprinklet joint
should be obtained with a torque of 7
to 14ft.lbs. (9,5 to 19.0 Nm). A maxi-
mum of 21 ft.lbs. (28,5 Nm) of torque is to be used to install sprinklers.
Higher levels of torque may distort the
sprinkler inlet with conseeuent leak-
age or impairment of the sprinkler.
Do not attempt to compensate for in-
sufficient adjustment in an Escutcheon
Plate by under- or over-tightening the
Sprinkler. Readjust the p6sition of tlle
sprinkler fitting to suit.
The Series LFll Horizontal Sidewall
Sprinklers must be installed rn ac-
cordance with the following instruc-
I|ons.
Step l. Horizontal sidewall sprinklers
are to be installed in the horizontal
position with their centerline of water-
way perpendicular to the back wall and
parallel to the ceiling. The word "TOP"
on the Deflector is to face towards the
ceiling with lhe front 6dge of the De-
flector parallel to the ceiling.
Step 2. With pipe thread sealant ap-
plied to the pipe threads, hand tighten
the sprinkler into the sprinkler frtttng.
Step 3. Tighten the sprinkler into the
sprinkler fitting using only the W-Type
6 Sprinkler Wrench (Ret. Figure 3).
With referencs to Figure 1 , the W.Type
6 Sprinkler Wrench is to be applied to
the wrench flats.
The Series LFll Recessed Horizontal
Sidewall Sprlnklers must be installed
in accordance with the followino in-
structions.
Step A. Recessed horizontal sidewall
sprinklers are to be installed in the
horizontal position with their cent6rline
of wateMay perpendicular to the back
wall and parallel to the ceiling. The
word "TOP" on the Def lector is to tace
towards the ceiling.
Step B. After installing the Style 20
Mounting Plate over the sprinkler
threads and with pipe thread sealant
applied to the pipe threads, hand
tighten the sprinkler into the sprinkler
fitting.
Step C. Tighten the sprinkler into the
sprinkler fitting using only the W.Type
7 Recessed Sprinkler Wrench (Ref.
Figure 4). With reference to Figure 1,
the W-Type 7 Recessed Sprinkler
Wrench is to be applied to the sprinkler
wrench {lats.
Step C. Atter the wall has been in-
stalled or the linish coat has been ap-
plied, slide on the Style 20 Closure
over the Series LFll Sprinkler and
push the Closure over the Mounting
Plate until its flange comes in contact
with the wall.
Care and
Maintenance
The Series LFll (TY1334) must be
maintained and serviced in accord-
ance with the following instructions:
/vorEs
Absence of an Escutcheon Plate may
delay the sprinkler operation in a fire
situation.
Before closing a fire protection system
main control valve for maintenance
work on the fire protection system
which it controls, Dermission to shut
down the affected fire protection sys-
tem must be obtained from the Dro)er
authorities and all personnel who may
be affected by this action must be no-
titied.
Sprinklers which are found to be leak.
ing or exhibiting visible signs ot corro-
sion must be replaced.
Automatic sprinklers must never be
painted, plated, coated, or otherwisc
altered after leaving the factory. lvlodi-
fied sDrinklers must be reolaced.
Sprinklers that have been exoosed to
corrosive products of combustion, but
have not operated, should be replaced
it they cannot be completely cleaned
by wiping the sprinkler with a cloth or
by brushing it with a soft bristle brush.
Care must be exercised to avoid dam-
age to the sprinklers - before, during,
and after installation. Sprinklers dam.
aged by dropping, striking, wrench
twisvslippage, or the like, must be re-
plac6d. Also, replace any sprinkler that
has a cracked bulb or that has lost
liquid from its bulb. (Ref. Installation
Section).
The owner is responsible lor the in-
spection, testing, and maintenance of
their fire protection system and de-

Dear Rik:
At your request, this office has field coordinated the following structural alterations to the
residsnce mentioned above. Plans as prepared by SNOWDON AND HOPKINS
ARCHITECTS, PC dated 06-02-04 and original structural drawings as prepared by
PIERCE, BRINER AND FITZHUGH SCOTT dated April 20,1977 were available for
review. The following items were addressed by this office, they are:
a) STAIRHEIGHT CLEARANCE
The new location for the stair to the upper level requires that the adjoining rafter
be removed to accommodate a new sloping ceiling at the start of the stairs' A
ML l t/tx 18 has been let into the bottom of the 2x6 wall studs above the
compromised :3lfter. 3-Yz" diameter lags were used at each stud to connect the
ML beam to the existing 2x6 studs. Minimum 3" bearing each end of Microlam.
b) STAIRTREAD CONSTRUCTION
The clearance between the bathroom doors beneath the new stairs, and the
original stair sfingers, was unacceptable for the door siee. The stringer was
removed for 3 risers, and I Ti'thick Microlams were used for teads and risers.
The header and wall framing as modified, is acceptable for the desigrr loading
conditions.
ln conclusion, the items described above were inspected by this office, structurally
desigred and coordinated, and re-inspected and approved at a follow-',tp inspection.
LivJloads used for structural desip are 100 psffor flat roofs, 40 psffor residential floor

Mr. Jeff Bailey
Board of Directors, Lodge of Lionshead, Phase lll
380 East Lionshead Circle
Vail, Colorado 81657
Septtrntber 4, 2003
Deai-Jeff,
The Stein family (owners of unit 8 in the Lodge at Lionshead Phase lll Building, 360 East
l-itrrr:'lttr:-rd Circle) is hoping to do remodel work on their unit next spring. As part of the remodel,
tht:,,, are hoping to upgrade and modify several of the existing exterior window and door units.
Ati.r,:hod are sketches of the existing and proposed exterior facades (north and south) showing the
urrrl:i ullected. The requested changes are as follows:1 Replace existing awning units (2) with new fixed glass units on the south elevation at the living
-;rrd dining areas.2 lioFrlace existing lower fixed glass units (4) with new awning (operable) units along the south
rlsvation at the living room/dining area and new master bedroom.3 Fir)place existing fixed glass panel and swing door with new double French door unit at south
r.iev.ation of new master bedroom 4 ltoplace existing sliding window unit (1) with new awning units at south elevation of new upper
l,rv(ll bedroom.
5. lieplace existing bedroom door units (2) with ne\ry casement units at north elevation (existing
walkway and spiral stair to remain).
Arr i,rr'ldrtional item of clarification for the remodel is the owner's desire to modify fireplace flue
altgnments withtn their unit for unit 4 and unit I fireplaces. The flues would enter the unit at its
exrstrng location and exit the unit within the existing above-roof chimney (but offset approx. 18" at
the upper level of unit 8). Any work would comply with appropriate building code requirements and
I would hope that this would be allowed.
Our office is hoping to develop construction documents for the remodel work prior to the end of the
year and would like to incorporate these potential changes into the drawings. Your review of the
matter would be appreciated in order for us to move fonryard with the project. Should you have any
questtons on the matter or need additional information. do not hesitate to contact our office. Thank
you for your consideration.
