3M Fire Banier Duct Wrap 154 system should be
installed in accordance with the lolloring installation
inslructions.
Matedal and Equlpment . 3M Fire Banier Duct Wrap 15A blanket, 1-1l2in.
(38 mm) thick, 24 in. (60 cm) or 48 in. (121 cm) wide,
20 ft. (609 cm) standard length. The 48 in. (121 cm)
wide blanket helps to minimize waste.. Aluminum toil tape.. Minimum g4 in. (19 mm) wide lilament tape.. Carbon st€el or stainless steel banding material,
minimum 1l2in. (12,7 mm) wide, minimum 0.015 in.
(0,38 mm) thick, with steel banding clips.. Hand banding tensioner, crimping tool, and banding

Sealanls must be stored in a dry warehouse
environm€nt. Pallets should not be stacked.
Prep€,ra/b/rylt/e//,*: 3M Fire Banier DuctWrap 15A is
installed with common lools, such as knives, banders
and capacitor discharge guns ilr applying insulation
pins. In order to install the duct tirestop system, the
surfaces ol all the openings and penetrating items need
to be clean, dry frost free and free of dust.
Iti'Efhod: To minimize waste, 3M Fire Banier Duct
Wrap 15A material should be rolled out tautly b€tore
measuring. General instructions for installing the 3M
Fire Banier Duct Wrap 15A include a one-layer wrap
construction applied directly io the duct. The 3M Fire
Banier Duct Wrap 15A blanket is wrapped around the
perimeter of the duct and is cut lo a length to overlap
itself not less than 3 in. (76 mm). The overlap made by
adiacent blankets forms the "longiludinal" overlap.
Aluminum toll tap€ is used to seal all cut edges ot the
blanket and any tears in the foil scrim.

With the telescoping overlap wrap method, each
blanket overlaps one adjacent blanket, and each
blanket has one edge exposed and one edge covered
by the next blanket as shown in Figure 1. The visible
edges ol the perimeter overlaps all poinl in the same
dkection.
2. Checkerboard 3 In. (76 mm) Or€rlapWrap
With the 3 in. (76 mm) checkerboard overlap wrap
method, blankets $/ith both edges exposed alternate
with blankets with covered edges, as shown in Figure
1 . The visible edges of the perimeter overlaps
aft€rnate their directions and appear on every olher
blanket.
3. Butt JolntWlth Collar
With the butt joint and collar method, adiacent
blanksts ar€ butted tightly together and 6 in. (152 mm)

(76 mm) minimum as shown in Figure 1 .
In all thr€e overlap techniques the perimeter overlap
can occur at any location on the duct.
The blanket is mechanically attached to the duct by
steel banding or by welded insulation pins and clips for
all lhree installation methods listed above.
For Bandlng Only (See FlguF 1)
Filament tape can be us€d to temporarily hold the blan-
ket in place until the banding is applied. The steel
banding is applied around the duc{1-112 in. (38 mm)
from each edge of the blanket, and maximum
1{U--1/2ln. (26,7 cm) centers. The banding is placed
around the material and tightened so as to sufiiciently
hold the 3M Fire Banier DuctWrap 15A in place
against the duct, compressing the foil fui not cutting
the toil.
Addltlonal Plnning to Prcwnt Sagglng ot the Wrap:
For Ducts 24 in. (60 cm) and larger in width,
additional pins are needed to support the blanket on
the bottom horizontal surface and on the outside face
of a vertical duct run. Space pins a maximum ot
'10-'ll2 in. (26,7 cm) apart in the direction ol the
blanket width, and a maximum of 12 in. (30 cm) apart
in the direc'tion of the blanket length. Refer to
paragraph belo,lr for more inlormation on Mechanical
Fastening with Pins.
For Mechinlcal Fesbnlng wlth Plns Only
Insulation pins are welded to th€ duct in th€ centers of
the overfaps a minimum ol 1-112 in. (38 mm) from each
edge of he blanket, and spaced a maximum ol 1G112
in. (26,7 cm) on center along perimeter
overfap, and a maximum ol 1o-18 in. (26,7 mm) on
cenier along longitudinal o/erlaps. The blanket is
impaled over the pins and held in place by galvanized
speed clips. Insulation pins that extend belond the
blanket wrap shall be turned down to eliminate sharp
points. Insulated cup-head pins can be used at the
same spacing requirements of lhe insulation pins.
NOTE: Support hangar systems do not need to be
wrapped provided the hangar rods are at least a
minimum of 3V8 in. (9,53 mm) diameter and spaced a
maximum of 60 in. (152 cm) on center along the length
of the duct. Use a minimum 2in.x2 in. x 1/4 in.
(50 mm x 50 mm x 6,35 mm) steel angle steel support
channel or SMACNA equivalent support system.
Acc€ss Door Installatlon (See Flgurc 2)
Four galvanized steel threaded rods, |/4 in. diameter
(6,35 mm) W +112 in. to 5 in. long (114 mm to
127 mm) are welded to the duct at the cornors of the
door opening. Four st6el tubes, each 3 in. (76 mm)
long, are placed wer the rods to acl as protection for
the gM Fire Banier Duct Wrap 15A when fastening the
door. Four insulation pins are weld€cl to the door panel
tor installation of the blanket. One layer of 3M Fire
Banier Duct Wrap 15A is cut approximately the same
size as the acc€ss panel and impaled over the insula-
tion pins on the pan€|. ,t is essentia/ t at this layer fit
tightly against the wnp sunounding the access dool
opening with no through openings. A second layer of
3M Fire Banier Duct Wrap 15A is cul so as to overlap
lhe first layer by a minimum ot 1 in. (25,4 mm). The
second layer is impaled over the pins and both layers
are locked in place with gahranized speed clips. Pins
that extend b€yond th€ outer layer of 3M Fire Banier
Duct Wrap 15A shall be turned down to avoid sharp
points on the door.
The insulated door panel is placed over the threaded
rods and held in place with washers and wing nuts.
The details are shorvn in Figure 2.
Penetretlons (See Flgue 3)
When the duct penetrates a fire rated wall, ceiling or
lloor, an approved fireslop system must be employed.
Figure 3 illustrates a typical condition.
To firestop the wrapped ducl, follow the insiallation
parameters detailed in the following Omega Point
Laboratories, Inc. systems:

o All installations of elterior hottubs or spa's require a DRB approval from planning. This application will
not be accepted without a copy of the DRB approval form attached (if applicable).o If this permit is for installation of an exterior hot tub or spa on a new elevated platform or deck over
30" above grade, you must also obtain a building permit.o If this permit is for installation of an exterior hot tub or spa on any existing deck or elevated platform,
a structural engineer must review the existing condition and veriff that it will support the added
concentrated load. Please provide a copy of the structural engineers wet stamped letter or drawing
with this application.o If this is a remodel in a multi-family building with a homeowners association, a letter of permission
from the association is required.o If this permit is for a commercial space, two (2) sets of stamped drawings are required. Eledrial
one-line and panel schedules arc reguired if load is added or distribution is alhrcd.
