Asbestos Testing &Abatement Requirements
Asbestos testing and abatement protects workers, homeowners, neighbors and emergency services responders from ex-
posure to harmful asbestos. It is your responsibility to be in compliance with the State. Please contact the State directly
for their requirements at the contact info listed below.
When is asbestos testing reauired?
ANY building projects disturbing more than these threshold levels of building materials require asbestos testing:
One-and Two-Family Dwellings: 32 square feet
All Others(commercial spaces, hotel rooms, etc): 160 square feet
Definition of a single-family dwelling: any dwelling unit that is used primarily for a single family, including
multi-family/condominium units, and fractional fee units.
Asbestos testing results must be provided with your application for a building permit.
Tests which identify POSITIVE results at more than 1% require abatement by a State-certified abatement contractor. The
clearance letter must be submitted to the Town of Vail before the building permit will be issued.

Tips&Facts:
• Even recent construction projects may include asbestos-containing materials, so buildings of�age require testing.
• The "1989 Ban" on asbestos-containing materials is commonly misunderstood. "In fact, in 1991 the U.S. Fifth Circuit
Court of Appeals vacated much of the so-called "Asbestos Ban and Phaseout" rule and remanded it to the EPA. Thus,
much of the original 1989 EPA ban on the U.S. manufacturing, importation, processing, or distribution in commerce
of many asbestos-containing product categories was set aside and did not take effect." - CDPHE

INTRUDUCTIUN;
On April 17ih, 2012 an inspection/survey was conductcxl and 6 bu[k
samples were collecteti f'rom:

302 Hanson Ranch Road Units 304 and 306
Vail, CO.
The purpose of the inspection/survey wbs to locate and sampte
suspected Asbestos containin� material� that might be present m the units
that are pl,aruied for selective mterior rcnovation.
The inspection was made, and thc samples were collected by John R.
Peterman, an A.H.E.R.A. and State of Colorado Ccrtified Asbcstos
. In.�pector. Great care was taken during the inspection and samplmg to be as
accurate as possble. It should bc noted that minimal damage was donc to
thc cxisting building structures during thc irispcction so thcrc is no
documentation for unseen condition.S or stored 'Rems.
All samples were analyzed by DCM Scicnce Lab in Wheat Ridge, CO.
This laboratory i.s decmed "Proficicnt" in thc E.P.A.Quality A.ssurance (QA)
program for the determination of asbestos in bulk materials, and is accredited
by the Amcrican Hygicne flssociation (AHA).
SAMPI.ING PROTOCUI,:
A random sampling scheme was used to sampSe the suspect materials lhat
were discovered. if during any future demolition or rcnovaiion work,
suspect material is discovered that hasn't been sampled and would be
di�turbed, work should be halted until the rruterial has becn testcd.

Renovation Area Descreption:
The units 304 and 306 are planncd for intcrior renovation. The interior walls
are covered in shc�trock, woad, and brick. The ceilmgs are covered in
sheetrock tike the walls. The tloors are covered in carpet,wood,ceramic tiles
and sheet vinyl.
CONCLUSIONS & RECOMMENDATiONS:
Laboratory anatysis of the bullc samples indicatcs that Asbestos was detected
in one out of frvc cou�osite sheetrock samples. Thc Asbcstos contcnt of the
positive samplc is less than the Regulatory Limit (Grc;ater than t% Asbcstos).
The Asbestos contcnt was verified by the requireci Paint Count Analysis. No
Asbcstos was dctcctcd ir� thc remaining samples tested,

July 2012 and 3 August 2012. Completion of the project as specified on the structural plans,

Mr. Stevenson,
As you are aware, Hayward Baker Inc. (HBI) performed compaction grouting for soils densification
for one exiting footing at the above referenced project. The purpose of the compaction grouting was
to provide an allowable bearing capacity of 9,000 psf for the existing footing. Based on HBI's
review of grout logs and grout takes in each of the four holes installed, and HBI's grouting
experience, this bearing capacity has been achieved. The grout logs are attached to this letter. Any
additional testing to verify this was at the Owner's and/or Contractor's discretion and as far as HBI is
aware, was not performed. Structural capacity evaluation of the existing footing to handle the
increased loading was not a part of HBI's scope and it is assumed here-in that this evaluation was
performed and approved by Others.
As mentioned, all grout logs of HBI's work are attached further in this package. A review of the
grout logs and daily reports indicated that the work met all criteria spelled out by HBI in its proposal
dated 25 May 2012. The soils were thus adequately densitied through the compaction grouting effort
and meet the new bearing capacity requirement.
