A large portion of the application doesn't really apply to what we are attempting to accomplish at the Bus Shelter. I have tried to be as thorough as possible. This site did not have a physical address as of Monday 6/4/12. Sean with your GIS Division has designated an address in a much appreciated timely manner. With this being another obstacle to our utility approval & verification portion of the application, I have already requested locates to help simplify the process. Louise Timson with Xcel Energy has requested to be contacted directly by the Town of Vail and that she doesn't deal with contractors or the general public. We have received approval from 4 of the other divisions and Public Works approved what we were trying to do as well. I'm going to be out of town the rest of the week so I can forward the remaining approvals electronically or submit them in hardcopy next week if you would prefer, since that is how we are submitting everything else. As far as our sample rail systems, please give the designs some thought and let me know what you and the DRB would like to see in regards to finishes. The steel rod on the sample is only 5/16" diameter. We plan to use �i" diameter rod on the actual rail system to achieve a more rustic and bold look. The Pitkin Creek Transit Shelter is a historic (although not designated) hewn log cabin with a newer porch addition. Currently access to the shelter is via a set of steps to the east side of the porch and another to an opening in the cabin, also on the east side. T'he app(icant would like to remove the both existing sets of steps, as they are non-conforming to the current building code, and replace them. The porch access would be replaced with a new set of code-conforming steps and associated rail and the cabin access would be replaced with an ADA accessible ramp and associated railings. The eYisting porch rail consists of 6x6 rough sawn posts with 2s rough sawn top and bottom rails and 2x x-bracing between posts (see photos). The eYisting rail system does not meet the current building code. The existing horizontal walking surface is constructed of 3x rough sawn decking. The applicant proposes the following: l. Remove the existing x-bracing on the eYisting deck rails and replace with rail system to match proposed ADA ramp 2. Construct a concrete sidewalk from Bighorn Road to the east side of the east side of the structure, connecting to the ADA ramp and proposed stair to the porch 3. Construct an ADA ramp on the east side of the structure that leads to a new landing outside the existing cased opening on the east side. The treament in the lumber generally gives it a brown finish. We used the material on a section of bike path guardrail at the deer underpass in West Vail, if you would like to see it. I will provide a sample prior to ordering. I have no problem pouring colored concrete for the sidewalks. You can select a standard Davis Color or we can choose one once the ramp and rails are in.
