Frontage Road Vail, CO 81657 Re: Proposed Single-Family Residence 5056 Main Gore Drive North Dear Design Review Board: On behalf of the Owners, Eric and Heather Schultz, I am bringing before you a proposal for a new singl e-family residence to be constructed at 5056 Main Gor e Drive North of 3284 sf (see sheets A1.10 and A1.2 0 for GRFA calculations). Currently, this 21,762.6 sf lot has a single family house on it, which the owner has lived full time i n for the last 20 years and is now looking to replace. The l ot is outside of all rock fall zones, flood plains, or avalanche zones as defined by the Town of Vail. To best util ize the site, we are proposing to relocate the exis ting driveway from Main Gore Drive North to Main Gore Ci rcle. We feel that this is a drastic improvement o ver the current drive, from a safety point of view, as well as, from an aesthetic standpoint. We have sited t he house and driveway in a way that maximizes views and sun, while minimizing the disturbance to the existing mature trees. However, the construction of the new driveway will require the removal of two trees, bu t we are proposing the addition of several new trees to hope fully offset the loss. Similar to how we begin every project, we arrived a t the proposed design solution with several importa nt factors in mind: solar orientation, natural light and ventilation, views, snow storage and safety, im pact on the land, connection to the site (inside and outside), and, in this particular case, the client’s desire t o have uninterrupted views to the West. The design’s foot print looks to minimize disturbance to the site by building where the existing home currently sits. Additional ly, the proposed house will tuck itself into the si te by burying the northeast corner into the hill, while n estling the garage and master bedroom wing into the existing trees on the site. This will undoubtedly help to minimize the home’s impact on neighboring properties. The exterior material palette also hel ps to root the home in its mountain context by usin g rustic reclaimed barn wood siding, naturally stained cedar siding, and a buff colored drystack stone veneer. The main roof form (standing seam metal), although not necessarily common to the area, will help alleviate snow sliding and storage concerns. As our design hopefully reflects, we are excited ab out this project and hope to receive your approval to move forward with the construction soon. I am attaching a couple photos of the site as well as photos of a n architectural model for your reference. Sincerely, Ken Bridges, AIA Principal Ron Bureta Xcel High Pressure Gas Clear Off work Area 5/14 2012 UTILITY APPROVAL & VERIFICATION This form serves to verify that the proposed improvements will not impact any existing or proposed utility services, and also t o verify service availability and location for new cons truction and should be used in conjunction with preparing your utility plan and s cheduling installations.
