On June 15 , 2012 I was contacted by Brandon Lin -McDonald of Conundrum Technologies to see if we could determine if the existing structure , specifically the roof structure , was capable of supporting a series of 24 solar panels , three rows of eight panels , (Schuco MPE Modules in the MS 08 Series) , as shown on their layout plan , that Conundrum Technologies wanted to install on the roof of the above mentioned residence . We were provided existing structural plans that were on file with the own of Vail Building Department. After reviewing the plans we feel that the structure will be able to support the additional imposed loading from the solar panels . This was determined on a snow load of 80 pounds per square foot for roof pitches equal to or greater then 4 : 12 and a dead load of 15 pounds per square foot. The solar panels weight is approximately 2 . 5 pounds per square foot. The sum of the weights of the snow load and the solar panel load are 82 . 5 pounds per square foot. The technical information provided to me from Conundrum Technologies shows that they will be using a TTi Flat Jack Comp Shingle Mount system to support the track system that supports the solar panels . The TTi Flat Jack Comp Shingle Mounts shail not be spaced more then 24" on center ( perpendicular to the existing I -Joist rafters) and shall align with the existing 16 " I joists roof rafters .
