Sampling: During the sampling process, suspect ACM was separated into three EPA categories. These categories are thermal system insulation (TSI), surfacing ACM, and miscellaneous ACM. TSI includes all materials used to prevent heat loss or gain or water condensation on mechanical systems. Examples of TSI are pipe coverings, boiler insulation, duct wrap, and mud packed fitting cement. Surfacing ACM includes all ACM that is sprayed, trowelled, or otherwise applied to a surface. These applications are most commonly used in fireproofing, decorative and acoustical applications. Miscellaneous materials include all ACM not listed in the thermal system insulation or surfacing categories, such as linoleum, vinyl asbestos flooring, and ceiling tile. Boulder Environmental Management, Inc. followed EPA recommended sampling guidelines for identification of asbestos in bulk matrices. A set of three (3), five (5), or seven (7) samples were collected for each material type and analyzed by Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM). Each sample set was systematically analyzed. Upon determination that a sample in a set contained asbestos, analysis of the remaining samples in the set was discontinued. Sampling: During the sampling process, suspect ACM was separated into three EPA categories. These categories are thermal system insulation (TSn, surfacing ACM, and miscellaneous ACM. TSI includes all materials used to prevent heat loss or gain or water condensation on mechanical systems. Examples of TSI are pipe coverings,boiler insulation, duct wrap, and mud packed fitting cement. Surfacing ACM includes all ACM that is sprayed, trowelled, or otherwise applied to a surface. These applications are most commonly used in fireproofing, decorative and acoustical applications. Miscellaneous materials include all ACM not listed in the thermal system insulation or surfacing categories, such as linoleum, vinyl asbestos flooring, and ceiling tile. Boulder Environmental Management, Inc. followed EPA recommended sampling guidelines for identification of asbestos in bulk matrices. A set of three (3), five (5), or seven(7) samples were collected for each material type and analyzed by Polarized Light Microscopy(PLM). Each sample set was systematically analyzed. Upon determination that a sample in a set contained asbestos, analysis of the remaining samples in the set was discontinued.
