RE: Vail Golf Course #7 retaining wall construction project
The Vail Recreation District (VRD), in conjunction with the Town of Vail (TOV) is currently working on plans to
realign the #18 golf hole on the Vail Golf Course.
Background:
This project is a result of the town of Vail voter approval of the conference center funds to be partially allocated to
the Vail Golf course club house renovation. As a part of the project the #18 green needs to be moved up the
fairway, new bunkers installed and new tees created.
TOV contracted Phelps / Atkinson golf design group to provide the final design for a new #18 golf hole. Included in
the design is anew retaining wall to provide additional elevation for the new black tee. We will also be removing
6 trees and replacing them with 32 other trees. (Doug Fir, Aspen & Cottonwoods)
Purpose:
The purpose of this project is to create safe usable space to the east of the proposed club so than an exterior
component can be incorporated into the renovation plans.
Details:
This project will involve excavating and removing the existing #18 green and moving it east to a new location. We
will also be grading new bunkers and tees. This project also involves the removal of several trees on the proposed
black tee and fairway. The plan also involves the installation of 32 new trees as described in the tree plan. We will
also be installing a new retaining wall on the black tee. The retaining wall will not exceed 4' and will be
constructed with the Rosetta Stone material which was previously approved for use on the Vail golf course.
I look forward to answering any questions you may have regarding this project.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
1
