BUILDING PERMIT ISSUANCE TIME FRAME
. If this permit requires a Town of Vail Fire Department Approval ,
Engineer's (Public Works) review and approval , a Planning Department
review or Health Department review, and a review by the Building
Department, the estimated time for a total review may take as long
as three weeks.
All commercial (large or small ) and all multi-family permits will
have to follow the above mentioned maximum requirements . Residential
and small projects should take a lesser amount of time. However, if .
residential or smaller projects impact the various above mentioned
departments with regard to necessary review, these projects may
also take the three week period.
Every attempt will be made by this department to expedite this
permit as. soon as possible.

SUBJECT: CONSTRUCTION PARKING & MATERIAL STORAGE
In summary, Ordinance No. 6 states that it is unlawful for any
person to litter, track or deposit any soil, rock, sand, debris
or material, including trash dumpsters, portable toilets and
workmen vehicles upon any street, sidewalk, alley or public
place or any portion thereof. The right-of-way on all Town of
Vail streets and roads is approximately 5 ft. off pavement.
This ordinance will be strictly enforced by the Town of Vail
Public Works Department. Persons found violating this ordinance
will be given a 24 hour written notice to remove said material.
In the event the person so notified does not comply with the
notice within the 24 hour time specified, the Public Works
Department will remove said material at the expense of person
notified. The provisions of this ordinance shall not be
applicable to construction, maintenance or repair projects of
any street or alley or any utilities in the right-a-way.
To review Ordinance No. 6 in full , please stop by the Town of
Vail Building Department to obtain a copy. Thank you for your
cooperation on this matter.

NOTICE TO CONTRACTORS/OWNER BUILDERS
Effective June 20, 1991, the Town of Vail Building Department has
developed the following procedures to ensure that new construction
sites have adequately established proper drainage from building
sites along and adjacent to Town of Vail roads or streets .
The Town of Vail Public Works Department will be required to
inspect and approve drainage adjacent to Town of Vail roads or
streets and the installation of temporary or permanent culverts at
access points from the road or street on to the construction site.
Such approval must be obtained prior to any request for inspection
by the Town of Vail Building Department for footings or temporary
electrical or any other inspection . Please call 479-2160 to
request an inspection from the Public Works Department . Allow a
minimum of 24 hour notice .
Also, the Town of Vail Public Works Department will be approving
all final drainage and culvert installation with resulting road
patching as necessary . Such approval must be obtained prior to
Final Certificate of Occupancy issuance .

PUBUC WAY PERMIT PROCE
How it relates to Building Permit:
1) Fill out the our check list provided with a building permit application.
If yes was answered to any of the above questions then a "Public Way Permit" is
required. You can pick up an application at either Community Development,
located at 75 S. Frontage Road or Public Works, located at 1309 Vail Valley Drive.
2) Notice sign offs for utility companies. All utilities must field verify (locate)
respective utilities prior to signing application. Some utility companies require up
to a 48 hour notice to schedule a locate).
3) A construction traffic control plan must be prepared on a separate sheet of paper.
This plan will show locations of all traffic control devices (signs, cones, etc.) and
the work zone, (area of construction, staging, etc.)
4) Sketch of work being performed must be submitted indicating dimensions (length,
width & depth of work). This may be drawn on the traffic control plan or a site
plan for the job.
5) Submit completed application to the Public Work's office for review. If required,
locates will be scheduled for the Town of Vail Electricians and Irrigation crew. The
locates are take place in the morning, but may require up to 48 hours to perform.
6) The Public Work's Construction Inspector will review the application and approve
or disapprove the permit. You will be contacted as to the status and any changes
that may be needed. Most permits are released within 48 hours of being received,
but please allow up to one week to process.
7) As soon as permit is processed, a copy will be faxed to Community Development
allowing the "Building Permit" to be released. Please do not confuse the "Public
Way Permit" with a "Building Permit" to do work on a project site itself.
Note:
*The above process is for work in a right-of-way only.
*Public Way Permit's are valid only until November 15th.
*A new Public Way Permit is required each year.

Field Report
The following items were observed:
The main roof beam has been changed from 3 - 1 3/4 x 9 1/2 m=l's to 4- 1 3/4 x 7 1/4 m=l's. Similarly,the main
beam down the center of the upper level framing has been changed from 3 - 1 3/4 x 11 7/8 m=l's to 5 - 1 3/4 x 7
1/4 m=l's. These are not equal substitutions.
The header at the north wall of the upper level can be changed to 2- 1 3/4 x 11 7/8 m=l's in lieu of the triple 9 1/2
m=l originally specified. The same substitution holds true for the two headers in the west wall at the main level.
None of these headers are installed yet. All other headers throughout the unit can be 2 - 2 x 10's in lieu of the
triple 2 x 8's originally specified.
The east-west beam in the upper level floor framing at the east side is 2-7 1/4 m=l's with one 2 x 8 instead of the
triple 7 1/4 m=1 specified. This substitution will be adequate. An HGLT5 hanger should be installed at its west
end. The double 7 1/4 m=1 beam in line with this to the west is not yet installed. Four 2 x 6's have been
substituted for the 3 - 2 x 8 header at the new opening in the party wall at the west side of this level. This
substitution will be sufficient.
The double 2 x 8's at the northeast quadrant of the main level framing have not yet been installed. Two 1/2"
diameter x 7" expansion bolts have been installed into the sides of the existing pad that is to be expanded to 3' x
3'. 4#4 bars are tied to these which run parallel to the edges of the pad. A third 1/2"diameter x 7" expansion bolt
should be added to each side of this existing pad,and only 1 #4 should be placed parallel to the pad edges.
None of the deck framing is in place at this time.
