PUBLIC WORKS PERMIT PBOCESS
How it relates to Building Permits:
1) Fill out our check list provided with a buildino oermit aoolication.
lf yes was answered to any of the above questions then a "public way" is
required. You can pick up an application at either community Developmeni,
located at 75 S. Frontage Road or Public Works, located at 1309 Vail Valley Drive.
2) Notice sign offs for utility companies. All utilities must field verify (tocate)
respective utilities prior to signing application. Some utility companies require up
to a 48 hour notice to schedule a locate.
3) A construction traffic control/staging plan must be prepared on a separate sheet
of paper.An approved site plan may also be used. This plan will show locations
of all traffic control devices(signs, cones, etc..) and the work zone, (area of
Construction, Staging, etc..). This plan will expire on Oct. 1sth. and wilt need to
be resubmitted for approval through the winter.
4) Sketch of work being performed must be submitted indicating dimensions (length,
width & depth of work). This may be drawn on the traffic control plan or a iite
plan for the job.
5) Submit completed application to the Public Works's office for review. lf required,
locates will be scheduled for the Town of VailElectricians and trrigation crew. Tne
locates take place in the morning but, may require up to 4g hours to perform.
6) The Public Work's Construction lnspector will review the application and approve
or disapprove the permit. You will be contacted as to the status and any thai may
needed. Most permits are released within 48 hours of being received, Out ptease
allow up to one week to process.
7) As soon as the permit is processed, a copy will be faxed to community
Development allowing the "Building Permit'to be released. Please do not confuse
the "Public way Permit" with a "Building permit" to do work on a project itself.
NOTE:
: fhg:gbove"process is.for work in a pubtic way onty.* Public Way permits are valid only until November i5th.'A new Public way Permit is required each year if work is not comptete.

Dear Sirs:
According to our conversation of April 13, 1995, this letter is to afiirm your reasons for allowing
an equiva.lency exemption for egress requirements from tle O'r'erlook at Vail, an R-1, Type 5
project.
Since each unit is configured as a 3 story building with a basement at the rcar, but is actually a 2
story building on the entry side, we agree that this particular configuration is not specifically
categorized by the [IBC.
This configuration could bc intcrpreted to require an additional exit from the upper level.
However, the code is not clear, and the buildings will be equipped rvith a number of systems and
features resulting in a very comprehensive life-safety package. These include the following:
r Each unit is equipped with sprinklers
r Each unit will havc a hard-wired full fire alarm system.
r The upper floor in qucstion has doors to an atlached deck on one end, egress windows on the
other, and stairs to tie foyer in the center.
. The upper floor is never more than I I feet above grade.
Considering the above design features, we are also comfortable rvith an equiralency exenrptior for
LTBC section 3303.

The foundation wall reinforcing for Building A (Units 7, 8, 9 & l0) atong the south wall of the above
structure was observed by Monroe & Newell Engineers, Inc. during construction.
1. Atthough the view to the bottom of the wall was limited because the forms had already been
placed on both sides of the wall reinforcing, we were informed that the 2x4 keyrvay was not
installed as is shown in Section 2/SE.l. At this location only, the keyway may be ornitted.
Architect may rvish to consider additional rvaterprooiing in this area
2. The (2)-#5 horizontal at the top of the wall were tied at 5/8" clear spacing. This is not an
acceptable contractor's alternate, However, the contractor may space them at 4" vertically.
3. The vertical reinforcing shown in Section 2/SE.l in the middle of the rvall was tied
against the inside face of the u,all.'l'his reinforcing shallbe moved to the middle of
the wall.

The key'way on the north side and interior foundation wall footing was not installed as
shown in relevant sections on Sheet SE.1 and SE.2. Please see aitached detail for contractor's

2. Any soil that is in contact with or covering the rcinforcing shall be rcmoved.
3. (l )#5 (continuous) shall be added to the footing along the southeast comer oi'the
building as shown in Section 2/SE.l.
4. The top of footing elevation at Unit 7 garagc wall was lowered to I l0'-0". This
is an acceptable conttactor' s altemate. However, the top of backfill elevation on the
insidc ol thc foundation wall shall renrain at I l6'-0" as shown on the construction
documents.
