Overhead seruices are not allowed in the Town of Vail.
Underground seruices shallbe in conduit (PVC) from the utility transformer to the electric meter, main
disconnect switch, and to the first electrical distribution circuit breaker panel.
The main disconnect switch shall fu tudily acesible, andlocated next to the meter on the exterior wall of
the structure. All underground conduits are required to be inspected before back-filling the trench.
In multFfamily dwelling units, no electrical wiring or feeder cables shall pass from one unit to another. Common

TOWN OF VAIL ELECTRICAL PERMIT GUIDEUNES
All installations of exterior hot tubs or spa's require a DRB approval from planning, This applicaUon will
not be accepted without a copy of the DRB approval form attached (if applicable).
If this permit is for installation of an exterior hot tub or spa on a new elevated platform or deck over
30" above grade, you must also obtain a building permit,
If this permit is for installation of an exterior hot tub or spa on any existing deck or elevated platform,
a structural engineer must review the existing condition and veriff that it will support the added
concentrated loid. Please provide a copy of thl structural engineers wet stamped letter or drawing
with this applicaUon.
If this is a remodel in a multi-family building with a homeowners association, a lefter of permission
from the association is required.
If this permit is for a commercial space, two (2) sets of stamped drawings are required. Electrical
one4ine and panel schedules are required if load is added or distribution is altercd.

2. Two foot contour intervals unless the parcel

3. Existing trees or groups of trees having trunks with diameters of 4" or more, as measured from a point one foot above grade.
4. Rock outcroppings and other significant natural features (large boulders, intermittent streams,
etc. ) .
5. Hazard areas (avalanche, rockfall, etc.),centerline of stream or creek, required creek or
stream setbaek, 100-year flood plain and slopes of 40t or more, if applicable.
6. Ties to existing benchrnark, either USGS landmark or serder invert. This information should be clearly stated on the survey so that all
measurements are based on the same starting point.
This is particularly important for height
measurements. See Policy On Survey Information,for more information regarding surveys.

VI I I . CONCEPTUAL DESIOREVIEW
A. Submittal requirements: The owner or authorized agent of any project requiring design approval as prescribed
by this chapter may subnit plans for conceptual review by the Design Review Board to the Department of
Community Development. The conceptual review is intended to give the applicant a basic understanding of the compatibility of their proposal with the Town, s Design Guidelines. This procedure is recommended primarily for applications more complex than single-fanily and two-family residences. However, developers of single-family and two-family projects shall not be
excluded from the opportunity to request a conceptual design review. Cornplete applications must be submitted
10 days prior to a scheduled DRB meeting.
The following infornation shall be subnitted for a conceptual review:
1. A conceptual site and landscape plan aL a minimum scale of one inch eguals twenty feet;
2. Conceptual eLevations showing exterior materials
and a description of the character of the proposed
structure or structuresi
3. Sufficient inforrnation to show the proposal
complies with the development standards of the
zone district in which the project is to be located (i.e. GF{FA, site coverage calculations,

B. Procedure: Upon receipt of an application for
conceptual design review, the Department of Community
Development shall revj.ew the submitted materials for general compliance with the appropriate requirements of the zoning code. If the proposal is in basic
compliance with the zoning code requirements, the project shal1 be forwarded to the DRB for conceptual review. If the applicati-on is not generally in
compliance with zoning code requirements, the application and submittal materiaLs sha1l be returned
to the applicant. with a written explanation as to why
the Community Development Department staff has found
the project not to be in compliance with zoning code requirements. Once a complete application has been received, the DRB shall review the subnitted conceptual
review application and supporting material in order to
determine whether or not the project generally complies with the design guidelines. The DRB does not vote on conceptual reviews. The property owner or his representative shall be present at the DRB hearing.

Dear Sirs,
Since the initial request for approval on the Maclean
remodel of Unit 4 at vail Point John and Carol- Maclean have
completed the deck addition portion of the project and will
start the bedroom addition portion this April. There have
been some minor changes to the plans since then which I will
enurnerate below.
1. A 3 ft by 1-O ft balcony deck has been added to the
west side off of the new bedroom. This is shown of the
revised drawings, dated March 9, 1-993. This balcony does
not effect any neighbor's privacy.
2. The main level living room is being remodeled by
taking out the bedroom adjacent to it and reorienting the
fireplace. This is an internal chang'e, except for a l-6 inch
by I foot bump-out on the south wall, so as to accommodate
the fireplace. This extra 10.66 s.f. of space would be
under the 250 application already in p1ace.
3. There would also be an 6 ft. sliding glass door in
Iieu of the double casement at the new balcony' And a new
7ft. trapezoid window in the east wall looking towards the
Gore Range. This window would be set high so as to ensure
the privacy of the adjacent unit, no 3.
These are the changes to the already approved remodel-
which we are requesting your approval. Tf these changes are

A.Three copies of a recent topographic survey, stamped bv a licensed surveyor, at a scaLe of 1" = 20' or larger,
on which the followinq information is provided:
Lot area.
Two foot contour intervals unless the parcel consists of 6 acres or more, in which case, 5t contour intervals may be accepted.
Existing trees or groups of trees having trunks with diarneters of 4" or more, as measured from a point. one foot above grade.
Rock outcroppings and olher significant natural features (large boulders, intermittent streams,
etc. ) .
Hazard areas (avalanche, rockfall, etc.),centerline of stream or creek, required creek or
stream setback, 100-year flood plain and slopes of
40% or more, if applicable.
Ties to existing benchmark, either USGS landmark or sewer invert, This information should be clearly stated on the survey so that a]I
measurements are based on the same starting point.
This is particularly important for height
measurernents. See Policy On Survey Information,for more information regarding surveys.
Locations of the following:a. Size and type of drainage culverts, swales,etc. must be shown.
b. Exact location of existing utility sources
and proposed service lines from their source to the structure. Utilities to include:

c. Show all utility meter locations, including
any pedestals to be located on site or in the right-of-way adjacent to the site. Revocable permits from the Town of Vail are required for improvements in the right-of-way.

8. Existing and finished grades.
9. Provide spot elevations of the street, and a

VII. FINAL SITE PLAN
Once a building permit has been issued, and construction is
underway, and before the Building Department will schedule a framing inspection, two copies of an Improvement Location Certificate survey (ILC) stamped by a registered professi-onal engineer must be submitted. The following information musL be provided on the ILC:
A. Building location(s) wj-th ties to property corners,i.e. distances and angles.
B. Building dimensions to the nearest tenth of a foot.
C. AlI utility service fine as-builts, showinq type of materi-al used, and size and exact location of fines.
D. Drainage as-builts.
E. Basis of bearing to t.ie to section corner.
F. A11 property pins are to be either found or set and stated on improvement survey.
G. AII easements.
H. Building floor elevations and all roof ridge elevations with existing and proposed grades shown under the ridge
1ines.
VIII,CONCEPTUAL DEI'GN REVIEW
Submittal requirements: The owner or authorizea agent of any project requiring design approval-as prescribed
by this chapter may submit plans for conceptual review by the Design Review Board to the Department of
Conmunity Devel-opment. The conceptual review is intended to give the applicant a basic understanding of the compatibili-ty of their proposal with the Town's
Design Guidelines. This procedure i-s recommended primarily for applications more compl-ex than single-family and two-family residences. However, developers of single-family and two-family projects shall not be excluded from the opportunity to request a conceptual design review. Complete applications must be submitted
10 days prior to a scheduled DRB meeting.
The folfowing information shall be submitted for a
conceptual- review:
1. A conceptual site and landscape plan at a minimurn
sca1e of one inch equals twenty feet;
2. Conceptual elevations showing exterior materials
and a description of the character of the proposed structure or st. ruct.ures;
3. Sufficient information to show the proposal
complj-es with the development standards of the
zone district in which the project is to be located (i.e. GRFA, site coverage calculations,
number of parking spaces, etc.);
4. Completed DRB application form.
Procedure: Upon receipt of an application for
conceptual design review, the Department of Community
Development shafl review the submitted materj-als for general compliance with the appropriate requirements of the zoning code. If the proposal is i-n basic
complj-ance with the zoning code requirements, the project shalI be forwarded to the DRB for conceptual review. If the application is not generally in
compli-ance with zoning code requirements, the application and submiltal materials sha1l be returned
to the applicant with a written explanation as to why the Community Devel,opment Department staff has found.the project not to be in compliance with zoning cod.e requiremenLs. Once a complete application has been received, the DRB shall revj-ew the submitted conceptual
review application and supporti-ng materiaf in order to
deLermine whether or not the project generally complies with the design guidelines. The DRB does not vote on
conceptual reviews. The property owner or his
representative shall be present at the DRB hearing.

Engineer''s (.Publ ic l.lorks) reyiew and approval , a Planning Department
review or Health Department revjew, and a review by the Building
Department, the estinated time for a total review may take as long
as three weeks:.
All commercial (1arge or sma'll) and a'l'l multi-fami'ly permits will
have to fo] 'l ow the above mentioned maximum requirements. Residential
and small projects should take a'l esser amount of time. However, if
residential or smaller projects impact the various above mentioned
departments with regard to necessary review, these projects may

fn sunmary, Ordinance No. 6 states that it is unlawful for any person to litter, track or deposit any soi1, rock, sand, debris or rnaterial, inctuding trash dumpsters, portable toilets and
workrnen vehicles upon any street, sidewalk, a}ley or public place or any portion thereof. The right-of-way on alL Town of Vail streets and roads is approxirnatety 5 ft. off pavement.This ordinance will be strictly enforced by the Town of VaiI Public Works Department. Persons found violating this ordinance will be given a 24 hour written notice to remove said naterial .In the event the person so notified does not comply with the notice within the 24 hour tine specified, the Pub1ic Works
Department will remove said material at the expense of person notified. The provisions of this ordinance shall not be applicable to construction, maintenance or repair projects of any street or alley or any utilities in the right-a-way.
