Dear Mr. Oflate: JAN 15'98 e 16:36 No . 005 P.02 In response to your letter dated January 12, I have made the following amendments to the proposed sign program. 1. The wording for Sign #1 will be changed as per your recommendation. 2. Signs #1 and #2 will display an international bus icon. 3. West Meadow Drive, the Medical Center and "In -Town Free Shuttle' will be clearly marked on the map in Sign #2. 4. Sign #4 will temporarily be affixed to the pole at the structure entrance, as suggested, and a permanent fixture in compliance with Vail 's City Ordinance will be erected as soon as possible. This letter is my written confirmation accepting the sign program with the aforementioned conditions. Meadow Drive Vail, CO 81657 Re: Sign Program submittal for Skier Parking Conditional Use Permit Condition of Approval Dear Mr. Anderson: The planning department has reviewed the hospitals proposed sign program. With only a few exceptions the signs and locations appear adequate. The following items need addressing prior to erection of signage for the skier parking. Proposed sign #1 could be less confusing with the following perhaps simplified statement, "TOWN OF VAIL BUS STOP LOCATED ON THE SOUTH SIDE OF THE HOSPITAL ON W. MEADOW DRIVE. ACCESS TO W. MEADOW DRIVE IS AVAILABLE THROUGH DRIVEWAY ACCESS ON THE FIRST LEVEL OF PARKING STRUCTURE. ELEVATOR SERVICE IS AVAILABLE ADJACENT TO THE SOUTH -WEST STAIRWELL." 2. Consider incorporating an international bus icon on Proposed sign #1 and on sign #2 where the bus stop is located on the map. 3. The facsimile submitted is somewhat unclear. Please be sure the map in sign #2 identifies "West Meadow Drive," highlights the Medical Center location with an arrow or other identifier stating "You Are Here," and highlights the "In -Town Free Shuttle" route between Lionshead and Vail Village. 4. Pursuant to Town of Vail City Ordinance ( §11 -5 -2G) prohibited signs include, "Signs not permanently affixed or attached to the ground or any structure except for window signs and temporary barriers utilized for emergency purposes." This ordinance would preclude the use of sign #4 as proposed. Sign #4 could be temporarily attached to the existing sign/pole at the entrance that describes parking structure use for employees only. The Planning Department believes that with these minor alterations and additions the sign program would be adequate. Upon written confirmation of your acceptance of the sign program alterations noted above you may proceed with sign manufacture and erection. In addition, please be aware of neighborhood concerns over the unsightly clutter in the driveway access to W. Meadow Drive. The wooden pallet serving as a blockade should be removed and replaced, for example, with a more formal orange pylon. Break -away bollards on that half of the driveway could also be a solution to replacing the make -shift blockade, but be aware that such a design would likely need Fire Department approval to ensure adequate emergency access.
