HomeMy WebLinkAboutDRB120302 Re lululemon Blade Sign ApplicationThe town council meeting is today at 3pm or Wednesday? I currently have down Wednesday at 1pm. Please clarify! As a showroom concept, we are only open three days a week per our corporation. Our windows are 41.5" x 61.5" and there are four of them on the store front and then there are two glass doors at 36" x 80". Please let me know if you need anything else. Thank you! The meeting starts at 3 in the Vail Town Council chambers- While you are a few items into the agenda, I would suggest being there at 3 in case items move quickly. On another note out of curiosity, why are you only open 3 days a week? The village has been incredibly busy on weekdays this summer, and Sundays are almost a wash because of the farmers market. Perhaps you could be open daily in August then go to three days/week in September-November when we really are not busy? Just a suggestion. Rachel F. If the blade sign is approved, we would not proceed with the decals. The rendering of our open/close (showroom hours) sign is attached and would be 8 1/2" x 11". It is on laminated paper. I will measure the windows tomorrow morning and email you those dimensions. I have attached a photo of our store front to include with our application. The blade sign would go on the top right of the building where you can see the previous tenant's sign was hung. Thank you for your patience! Please email that information by next Monday, June 30 to be included in this application, which will go to the Design Review Board on Wednesday August 1 at 3pm. Please have a representative present for that hearing. Let me know if you have questions. Rachel F. Initially you had separated them in order to get window sign approval if the blade sign didn’t get approved. Do you want to do that? if so, we can waive the few extra dollars- just let me know if you want to do window decals, and if so, what are the dimensions? Rachel F. If not approved, we will go without a sign for awhile due to budget restrictions from our corporate office. Unfortunately, they charge and send me the blade sign regardless if approved. No lighting on the blade sign. I am not sure what I will use for an open/ close sign at this time. I will let you you know as soon as I know. Thank you! Your other sign application will go to the Design Review Board on Wednesday August 1 at 3pm in the Vail Town Council chambers. I can tell you that approval is highly unlikely due to lack of relief in the sign. Also, are you proposing any lighting for that sign? Rachel F. Glasser Cc: Rachel Friede Dimond Subject: RE: Lululemon Katrina, Rachel is correct in that the DRB has consistently required their to be an element of dimension to the hanging and projecting business ID signs. This requirement can be found in Section 11-5-2E, Design Guidelines, Vail Town Code. See below: E. Use creative graphics and lettering: The creative use of depth, relief, shading, three-dimensional projections and other pleasing textural qualities is generally encouraged. The guidelines that apply to general sign colors likewise apply to graphics and lettering. Three-dimensional projections shall not be calculated as part of total sign area, but the size, placement, and style of the projections shall be subject to design review. I am certain that there may be some “flat” signs within the Village which may be the result of past DRB and/or past regulations. At his point staff will not be staff approving a “flat” sign. Should you wish to propose it we will schedule your complete sign application on an appropriate hearing once a complete application is received. Sandwhich board signs and “A”-Frame signs are not permitted within the Town’s Sign Code. I would suggest submitting an application for your window signs that can be reviewed and likely staff approved once compliance is ensured. You can then get these up and the business open. You can then submit an application for the hanging and projecting sign. I have attached the sign application for your use. Regards, Warren From: Katrina S. I am writing in regards to the signage for the lululemon showroom space at 193 East Gore Creek Plaza, Unit A, the "Englishman". The Showroom concept is different than the lululemon store concept, in the fact that it is a short term lease and we are only open three days a week. Therefore, the budget works accordingly and is very limited. The signage is allocated to the Showroom from the corporate office. I have attached a photo of the blade sign that I received. Per Rachel, we can not have a flat sign, it needs dimension. I contacted our Corporate office and unfortunately, I cannot get a different design of sign due to our budget constraint. There are a couple of flat signs throughout the village, so I am requesting an exception, due to the circumstances. Please let me know your thoughts. If we are not able to hang the blade sign, our only resort is the window decals, which I have attached a photo for your review. Do not get hung up on the sandwich board, as I doubt we will go that route. Are we able to have one, granted a much more professional version? In regards to a consistant look and feel on Gore Creek Plaza, I definitely think our blade sign with the iron sign holder is clean, professional, and much more attractive than the window decals. I appreciate your thoughts and any feedback! Please call me to discuss. 970.302.3082 Thank you for your time and consideration!
