PUBLIC WORKS PERMIT PROCESS
How it relates to Building Permits:
1) Fill out our check list provided with a buildino oermit aoolication.
lf yes was answered to any of the above questions then a "public way" is
required. You can pick up an application at either community Development,
located at 75 S. Frontage Road or Public Works, located at 13d9 Vail Valley Drive.
2) Notice sign offs for utility companies. All utilities must field verify (tocate)
respective utilities prior to signing application. Some utility companies require up
to a 48 hour notice to schedule a locats.
3) A construction traffic controlistaging plan must be prepared on a separate sheet
of paper.An approved site plan may also be used. This plan will show locations
of all tratfic control devices(signs, cones, etc..) and the work zone, (area of
construction, staging, etc..). This plan will expire on oct. 15th. and will need to
be resubmitted for approval through the winter.
4) Sketch of work being performed must be submitted indicating dimensions (length,
width & depth of work). This may be drawn on the traffic iontrot ptan oi a iite
plan for the job
5) Submit completed application to the Public Works's office for review. lf required,
locates will be scheduled for the Town of Vail Electricians and lrrigation crew. The
locates take place in the morning but, may require up to 4g hours to perform.
6) The Public Work's Construction Inspector will review the application and approve
or disapprove the permit. You will be contacted as to the status and any thai may
needed. Most permits are released within 48 hours of being received, but please
allow up to one week to process.
7) As soon as the permit is processed, a copy will be faxed to community
Development allowing the "Building Permit" to be released. Please do not confuse
the "Public Way Permit" with a "Building Permit" to do work on a project itself.
NOTE:
* The above process is for work in a public way only,* Public Way Permits are valid only until November 15th.* A new Public way Permit is required each year if work is not complete.

How it relates to Building Permits:
1) Fitl out our check list provided with a buildino oermit aoolication.
lf yes was answered to any of the above questions then a "public way" is
required. You can pick up an application at either community Development,
located at 75 S. Frontage Road or Public Works, located at 1309 Vail Valtey Drive.
2) Notice sign offs for utility companies. All utilities must field verify (tocate)
respective utilities prior to signing application. Some utility companies require up
to a 48 hour notice to schedule a locate.
3) A construction traffic controUstaging plan must be prepared on a separate sheet
of paper.An approved site plan may also be used. This plan will show locations
of all traffic control devices(signs, cones, etc..) and the work zone, (area of
Construction, Staging, etc..). This plan will expire on Oct. 1Sth. and will need to
be resubmitted for approval through the winter.
4) Sketch of work being performed must be submifted indicating dimensions (length,
width & depth of work). This may be drawn on the traffic control plan or a site
plan for the job.
5) Submit completed application to the Public Works's office for review. lf required,
locates will be scheduled for the Town of Vail Electricians and lrrigation crew. The
locates take place in the morning but, may require up to 49 hours to perform.
6) The Public Work's Gonstruction Inspector will review the application and approve
or disapprove the permit. You will be contacted as to the status and any thai may
needed. Most permits are released within 48 hours of being received, but please
allow up to one week to process.
7l As soon as the permit is processed, a copy will be faxed to community
Development allowing the "Building Permif'to be released. Please do not confuse
the "Public way permit" with a "Buitding permit" to do work on a project itself.
NOTE:
* The above process is for work in a public way only.' Public Way Permits are valid only until NovemUer iSttr.* A new Pubtic way Permit is required each year if work is not complete.

PUBLIC WORKS PERMIT PROCESS
How it relates to Building permits:
1) Fill out our check list provided with a buildino oermit aoolication.
lf yes was answered to any of the above questions then a "public Way" is
required. You can pick up an application at either community Development,
located at 75 S. Frontage Road or Public Works, located at 1309 Vail Valley Drive.
2) Notice sign offs for utility companies. All utilities must field verify (tocate)
respective utilities prior to signing application. Some utility companies require up
to a 48 hour notice to schedule a locate.
3) A construction traffic control/staging plan must be prepared on a separate sheet
of paper.An approved site plan may also be used. This plan will show locations
of all tratfic control devices(signs, cones, etc..) and the work zone, (area of
construction, staging, etc..). This plan will expire on oct. 1sth. and will need to
be resubmitted for approval through the winter.
4) Sketch of work being performed must be submitted indicating dimensions (length,
width & depth of work). This may be drawn on the tratfic iontrot ptan oi a iite
plan for the job.
5) Submit completed application to the Public Works's otfice for review. lf required,
locates will be scheduled for the Town of Vail Electricians and lrrigation crew. The
locates take place in the morning but, may require up to 4g hours to perform.
6) The Public Work's Construction Inspector will review the application and approve
or disapprove the permit. You will be contacted as to the status and any thai may
needed. Most permits are released within 48 hours of being received, but please
allow up to one week to process.
7) As soon as the permit is processed, a copy will be faxed to Gommunity
Development allowing the "Building Permit" to be released. Please do not confuse
the "Public Way Permit" with a "Building Permit" to do work on a project itself.
NOTE:
* The above process is for work in a public way only.* Public Way Permits are valid only until November 15th.* A new Public way permit is required each year if work is not complete.

Expansion of the Condominiums within the FirstBank of Vail
On March 24, 1992, staff discussed a proposal
#2) within the FirstBank of Vail. Staff reviewed
and he supported staff's decision.
Use
to expand the Kovener condominium unit (Unit
the decision outlined below with Larry Eskwith,
FirstBank of Vail is on property zoned Public Accommodation. This zone district does not
allow condominium units unless they are a part of a lodge. Therefore, the use is non-
conforming. Staff researched the plans in Council chambers as well as the files upslairs, and
found that the condominium units were constructed in 1972, were part of the original design,
were approved by the Town at the time, and are now leoal, non-conforming uses.
Density
The non-conforming section of the code, specifically Section 18.64.050(B) does not allow any
expansion to GRFA for structures which do not conform to density controls. In this case, the
4 dwelling units on the site fall well below the density limitation of the zone district. Public
Accommodation zoning allows 25 units per buildable acre. The Town has approved many
250 applications for primary/secondary structures, single family structures, and multi-family
struclures which have exceeded the maximum allowable GFIFA on-site.
Given these circumstances, the stafi will take the lollowing approach:
a. The 250 will not be allowed for units in structures which exceed the allowable number
of dwelling units on a site.
b. The 250 will be available for units in structures which exceed the maximum amount oi
GRFA allowed on a site.
c. Use, whether "legal non-conforming" or "by-right," does not affect the availability of the
250 to a dwelling unit.
