Dear Resident,
It has come to the attention of the Town that the historic irrigation ditch, which runs from north to south thru
(see attached map), does not
currently have water rights for any type ofuse; inigatiori'oi'aesthetic. In addition, the diversion for this historic
irrigation ditch is on publicly owned property and has recently been altered to divert more flow from Buffehr
Creek into the historic irisation ditch.
The Town is concemed about the long term health of Buffehr Creek and the lack of water rights during the low
flow months, July thru April. In our conversations with the Colorado Division of Water Resources it is
apparent that this historic irrigation ditch has no curent water rights aad is required to abide by state law. At a
minimum, this will require all flows to remain in Buffehr Creek during periods when there is a call on the river
typically from July thru April.
It is the Town's intent to remove the diversion and return the creek back to its natural state. This will generally
limit flow to the ditch to high flow periods (May and June).

Dear Julie and Jonny,
The Town of Vail Staff has recently rcviewed the Design Review application for the proposed
modifications to your residence. The following is a summary of materials missing from the application
package we received:
'i' A stamped, topographic survey, a landscape plan and site plan are required for this type of
application. A grading plan for the unpaved access to the back of the duplex is also required
as the grades will need to be verified by the Public Works Departrnent;
* It has not been verified how and when the existing, unpaved access to tle new storage area
was established, which will be required by Public Works as well;
l.' Elevations depicting existing and proposed improvements are required for additions. Each
halfofthe duplex must be consistent jn tenns ofbulk and mass, in addition to having all
exterior materials, finishes, and colors match exactly.
Please be advised that an ILC will be required at both foundation and framing inspection to veriff building
location.
Once the materials outlined above are received in our office, we will schedule your application for the next
reguiarly scheduled Design Review Board meeting.

After taking your application to today's Planning Staffmeeting, I have been given the direction that no
exceptions to the submiual requirements can be made for this tlpe of Desigrr Review Application. The
following requirements, as detailed in my last conospondence with you dated I l/05/03, still stand:

If this permit requires a Town of Vail Fire Depaftment Approval, Engineert (Public Works)
review and approval, a Planning Department review or Health Department review, and a
review by the Building Depaftment, the estimated time for a tptal review will take as long
as three (3) weeks.
All commercial (large or small) and all multi-family permits will have to follow the above
mentioned maximum requirements. Residential and small projects should take a lesser
amount of time. However, if residential or smaller projects impact the various above
mentioned depaftments with regard to necessary review, these projects may take five
(5) weeks to review and approve.
Every attempt will be made by this department to expedite this permit as soon as
oossible.
I, the undersigned, understand the plan check procedure and time frame. I also
understand that if the permit is not picked up by the expiration date, that I must still pay
the plan check fee and that if I fail to do so it may affect future permits that I apply for.

PUBLNC WORKS AND THE PUBLXC WAY PERMIT PROCESS
How it relates to Buildins Permits:
Fill out the attached check list with the Buildinq Permit Application.
If yes was answered to any of the questions then a 'Public Way" permit is required. You
can pick up an application at either Community Development locabd at 75 Soutt Frontage
Road or Public Work, locaEd at 1309 Elkhorn Drive.
Notice sign-offs for uUlity companies. ALL utilities must field verifu (locate) respective
utilities prior to signing application. Some utility companies require up to 48 hours notice to
schedule a locaE.
A construction traffic control/shaging plan must be prepared on a separate sheet of paper,
An approved site plan may also be used. This plan will show locations of all traffic control
devices (signs, cones, etc.) and the work zone, (area of construction, staging, etc.)' This
plan will expire on November 1st and will need to be resubmitted for consideration for
approval trrough the winter. Be aware that your resubmission for winter may be denied
depending on the location of construction.
Skebh of work being performed must be submitted indicating dimensions (length, width
and depth of work). This may be drawn on the trafflc control plan or a site plan for the job.
Submit completed application to the Public Work's office for review. If required, locabs will
bescheduledfortheTownofVail eleckiciansand irrigationcrew. Thelocates|akeplacein
the morning, but may require up to 48 hours to perform.
The Public Work's Constructjon Inspector will review the applicaUon and approve or deny
the permit. You will be conbcted as to the sbtus and any requiremenb frat may be
needed. Most permiE are released within 48 hours of being received, but please allow up
to one (1) week to process.
As soon as dre permit is approved, Ure Building DeparbTent will be notified, allowing the
"Building Permit" to be released. Please do not confuse fre'Public Way Permit" with a
"Building Permit".
NOTE; The above process is for work in a public way ONLY. Public Way
Permits are valid only unfil November 15th. A new Public Way Permit is required
each year if work is not complete. Re-application each Novernber 15th does not

Overhead services are not allowed in the Town of Vail'
Underground services have to be in conduit (PVC) from the transformer to the electric meter, main disconnect
switch and to the first electrical distribution circuit breaker panel'
The main disconnect switch shall be tocated. next to the metet on the exterior wall of the structure easily

All underground conduitS are required to be inspected before back-fillinq the trench.
In multi-fimity dwelllng uniBs, no electrical wlrlng or feeder cables shall pass from one unit to another. Common
walls and spaces are accepted.

. An exterior lighting plan. Please be aware that no more than 15 exterior lights are
