The South Frontage Road is an important east/west route lphi ch provides for one lane of travel in each direction. The roadway is marked with a double-yellow centerline and edgelines and is posted with a 25 miles-per-hour speed linit in the vicinity of the site. Nearby traffic activity on the south Frontage Road is estimated to be 5,000 to 6,000 vehicles on a current average weekday. As a result, it has been concluded that left-turn, acceleration and deceleration lanes are not required inorder to conform to requirements of the code. An accererationlane is not reguired due to the low 25 mph speed limit; a deceler-ation rane is not reguired since expected peak-hour right turnsare less than 50; and a left-turn lane is not requiied untitpeak-hour left-turn demand reaches 30 vehicles. Since westbound right-turn movenents are going to be thepredominent traffic flow into the site, the plarined decelerationrane along the siters frontage would be beneficial to trafficmovement in the area. However, the existance of a large boxculvert acljacent to the siters eastern boundary makes constructionof such a lane to Access Code standards (a 90-foot taper, a 60-foot lane and about 30 feet of additional storage tengttrl, muchtoo costry to conaider. A lane with a 90-foot taper and 60 feetof tangent section does appear to be feasible, ana is thereforerecommended. These dimensions assume a 25-foot wide drivewaywiclt,h, 20-foot curb radii, and a l2-foot wide lane, as required b!the Access Code. The above recomrended design is compatibre with the Townrgconceptual pran for construction of a driveway to a rocationopposite fron the subject driveway, and provision for associatedleft-turn and deceleration lanes to be reguired in conJunctionwith prannetl adjacent land use changes.
