Per request of the Design Review Board of The Town of Vail we need a majority
approval from 1370 Sandstone Drive owners to allow us to:
1) Stucco the back side of Unit #13, matching the existing exterior of Units #8,#9,
#14 and#11"
2) Extend the back deck to the East and North, giving a full deck instead of a partial
deck.
3) Extend the fence on both sides of the property and adding a gate to each side
for access (allowing us to pen in a dog area for our dog to go out and not into
neighboring yards)

Dear Ron,
Thank you for submitting a design review application for the proposed deck, fence, and stucco
improvements to the Holden Residence at Unit 13, Eiger Chalets. This application does not
identify the materials being used to construct the fence or the deck, nor does it identify the
location of the proposed fence. Please submit this information to the Town of Vail Community
Development Department.
Upon researching the Town of Vail files for the Eiger Chalet, their is no record of the Town of
Vail approving any stucco work on the rear elevations of the Eiger Chalets. The existing stucco
on Units 7, 8, and 9 appears to have been constructed without Town of Vail Design Review
approval or Building Permit approval. Should the Holdens and/or the other Eiger Chalet
property owners wish to stucco the rear elevations of their units, a separate design review
application must be submitted on behalf of the entire building.

r lusrediately called the Eagle eounty assessoEa office and
told then of ny apparent permlt problem. .TamLe Humphrey'
Eagle County Real Estate AppralseEr after an lnitlal
eouputer eheck, said that she had lrore t'dlgglng inLo" to do
and $ould call me baek. Forty tulnutes laterr she did call me
back and eaid that a permit #3084 had been lssued to Robert,
Krumholz in Oetober, 1986 uhich in effect, ellnlnated the
garager added windoss, a ne\r external wal1 r and closedentry. She would nake a copy and I could plct< it up at the
front desk or she would mail it to me. she etated that lt
would not fax very '$e11. f eald that f vould drlve out to
Eagle and plck it up. Further, f asked her to searctr victor
Klnnonens [rermit ELauus and he arld f would pick them up at
the sane tiue.
Upon arrlving in Eagler my unlt 4 permit, elininating thegar?g€' flas theEe, but nothlng for Vlctor' I asked bo see

option for a 'studlo" unlt lthlch le presented on the llov

out on their master copy. Vlctor vould not aeeept the fact
that he had no pernit. As a slde note' Jamle, or a suaff
menberrsuggested that the alternative floor plan coufd have
been cancelled after the orlglnal bullding vas coupleted.
Vlctor was very upset aE we left Eagle.
On our drive baclc to Vailr f thought that Bill had uade
another suggestlon that tre could check ulth the Eagle Valley
fater Dlstrlct because of Vletorrs EtateEent that he had 2
vater peruits for hle unlt. I decldeat that we should give it
one last shot and drove to the water dietrlct office. There,
we recej.ved wonderful- staff aesLstance. After victor relayed
his problem, etaff aeked for help fEom Fred Haslee, a senior
expertl $ho seemed to understand Vlctorts sltuatlon as it
related to hls department. Fred suqqested that staff do some
tllsslns and they Fresented docunents supportlng vletorrs

Elger Chalets facelift project. After seeing and revieving
the final plansr f am excited about getting started.
f greatly appreclate your offer and willingness to seek
Design Revlev Board approvaL to retain the present garage
area livinl; space ln units 4 & 6.I bel-ieve that you are
proposing that this potential design problem be solved by
replacing a standard garage door in its normal position and
adding a long windov to the uppermost garage door frame.
Thi,s, seemingly, vould satisfy our need to preserve this
very functional living area, and solve a very big probl-em'
f have no knowledge about specific window type availability
so can't cornnent on this aspect. f am naturally concerned
about adeguate 1lght and ventllation needs. currently, in
unit 4r this is not a problem. My present r'iindor'rs are
functional, and not unattractive. in my opinion. Has our
architect studled and given his opinion on all options to
help the potential design problem? Mr. Glbson's advice to me
to see our archltect, vould be moot, lf he has already
studied this problen.
On another lssuer lflost Phase T owners are highly in favor of
fireplace natural gas aval1abl1ity, if the pipes can be
instltted within the wa11s. As you knorr, Units 5 & 6 have ii
outside the walls. On the one occasion where f met our
general contraetor, h€ mentioned that it uould be no problem
for his plumber to provide an estimate- Phase f owners ' rrho
utilize this option, don't expect Phase II owners to pay for
thls additlonal amenlty. Would you prefer that f renew this
contact or ean you do this? Please provide me our
contractors number if you vant me to do this. Thanks.
Most Phase f owners are really anxious to get this project
undervay and very appreciative of your outstanding efforts'
