Per the Town of Vail guidelines for building permits, energy code compliance for this “addition” project
can be per the 2009 IECC table (i.e. the prescriptive method), and a ResCheck calculation is not
required. Thus, for addition and remodel areas affecting the building’s thermal envelope, the Contractor
must comply with Table 402.1.1 of the 2009 IECC, using Climate Zone 6 for Eagle County. A brief
summary of the minimum performance requirements is listed below:
o Walls: (R-20 cavity) or (R-13 cavity plus R-5 continuous)
o Roofs: R-49
o Floors: R-30
o Fenestration: 0.35 U-value
o Skylight: 0.60 U-value
