It is your responsibility to be in compliance with the State. Please contact the State directly for their requirements at the contact info listed below. When is asbestos testing reauired7 ANY building projects disturbing more than these threshold levels of building materials require asbestos testing: One- and Two - Family Dwellings: 32 square feet All Others (commercial spaces, hotel rooms, etc): 160 square feet Definition of a single- family dwelling: any dwelling unit that is used primarily for a single family, including multi - family /condominium units, and fractional fee units. Asbestos testing results must be provided with your application for a building permit. Tests which identify POSITIVE results at more than 1% require abatement by a State - certified abatement contractor. The air clearance letter or form must be submitted to the Town of Vail before the building permit will be issued. Project Checklist My project falls into the category checked below: Will not disturb more than the threshold limits identified above. 0 Tested negative, or at 1% or below (1 copies of test results included) F1Tested positive at more than 1 %, requires abatement (i copies of test results included) Tips & Facts: • Even recent construction projects may include asbestos- containing materials, so buildings of gny age require testing. • The "1989 Ban" on asbestos - containing materials is commonly misunderstood. "In fact, in 1991 the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals vacated much of the so- called "Asbestos Ban and Phaseout" rule and remanded it to the EPA. Thus, much of the original 1989 EPA ban on the U.S. manufacturing, importation, processing, or distribution in commerce of many asbestos - containing product categories was set aside and did not take effect." - CDPHE Asbestos test results should be submitted to: Town of Vail, Community Development, 75 S Frontage Rd, Vail, CO, 81657. This investigation was conducted on behalf of and for the exclusive use of Mesa Properties (client), solely for use in a limited asbestos survey of the property. This report and the fmdings herein shall not in whole or in part, be disseminated or conveyed to any other party, nor used by any other party, in whole or in part, without prior written consent of Boulder Environmental Management. The results of this survey are limited to materials that were assessable and foreseeable. Additional materials may exist behind hard surfaces. Personnel knowledgeable of asbestos containing materials should always oversee demolition activities. Demolition work should be halted and sampling performed by a state of Colorado licensed building inspector if additional materials, which are suspected of containing asbestos, are encountered. If you have any questions regarding the contents of this report, please do not hesitate to contact us. Sampling: During the sampling process, suspect ACM was separated into three EPA categories. These categories are thermal system insulation (TSI), surfacing ACM, and miscellaneous ACM. TSI includes all materials used to prevent heat loss or gain or water condensation on mechanical systems. Examples of TSI are pipe coverings, boiler insulation, duct wrap, and mud packed fitting cement. Surfacing ACM includes all ACM that is sprayed, trowelled, or otherwise applied to a surface. These applications are most commonly used in fireproofing, decorative and acoustical applications. Miscellaneous materials include all ACM not listed in the thermal system insulation or surfacing categories, such as linoleum, vinyl asbestos flooring, and ceiling tile. Boulder Environmental Management, Inc. followed EPA recommended sampling guidelines for identification of asbestos in bulk matrices. A set of three (3), five (5), or seven (7) samples were collected for each material type and analyzed by Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM). Each sample set was systematically analyzed. Upon determination that a sample in a set contained asbestos, analysis of the remaining samples in the set was discontinued. If no asbestos was detected during the analyses, the suspect material was determined to be negative for asbestos content. *Asbestos *Lead *Industrial Hygiene *Safety *Final Air Testing* *Health and Safety Training* Boulder Environmental Management, Inc. 2400 Broadway St., Unit B, Boulder, CO 80304 Phone: (303) 382 -1175 Fax: 11 (866) 6994121 Results: The following materials are presumed to be asbestos containing: PRESUMED ASBESTOS CONTAINING MATERIALS MATERIAL I LOCATION Tar impregnated roofing materials* I Roof * The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, Au Pollution Control Division, does not require a notification to be submitted for a project involving the removal of non - friable tar- impregnated asbestos roofing felts.
