On Jtrne 4, 1900, I have visually inspected the remains of the swirrming pool located on
Kinnickkinnick Road in the Intermountain Subdivision. fhe only salvageable part of the
syEtem would be the pool vessel itself and there is some doubt about that since ttrereis a erack nrnning from the plasterecl area tbrcugh the tile on the souttr side pool
wall. this night indicate a stnrctural flaw. It occurs where the pool depttr changesto ttre deep end. lhis is a cormon place for a srack to ocsur in a unfilled pool that
has been subject to freeze-ttraw cycles from season to season. In any €vent, to nrake
ttre pool usable would require a near total rebuilding of the pool and the eguipnrent.I total rebuild would inclucle replacing all fittines in the pool walls and floor,
replutibing all new recirculation lines, replastering the entire pool Eurface, possibly
rePlacing alL tile and copint, renoval and replacenent of all deck areas, removal and
reconstrrrction of ttre retaining wall stnrcture on the northwest corner of the facility,
ingtallation of aII new pool eguipnent, i.e., punps, filters, heater, sanitization
syst€n, etc., and reconstnrction of public dressing rooms and restroorns.
VirtualLy everything except the pool vessel would have to be reconstnrcted. ltre pool
vesgel itself will regrire replunbing and resurfacing as well. I egtinrate the cost to
rebuild ttris pool facility for public use to be sonewhere between i150,000.00 anil
1200'000.00. Ittis may se6n a relatively hieh price but when one considers the need to
renove mrch of tlre existing buililing structuxe ancl all of t{re pool deck and reconstruct
trcst of the existing facility, it should prove to be an acsuxate estimate.
llaving been involved in several pool reconstruction pro5ects here in ttre Vail Valley, Ibelieve if this amount to money is to be spent, a nore suitible location rnight be
considered where constnrction woulcl be less difficult and also suitable parking space
can be provideil.
To stlunarize nry evaluation, there is no aclvantage to using the salvageable pool vesselto ultinately provide a public strirming pool facility at tlrat location.

swirnning pool building located. in Intermountain. At that €irne,one of the options we discussed was the possibility oftransferring ownership of that property to the Town of Vail asa park or open space dedication. The Town of Vail wouldrenove the existing building and clean up the site. I have
spol<.en to the Town staff about that idea and received verypositive reactions. We would be interested in furtherdiscussions on that option and are enthused about thepossibility of cleaning up that site and creating an open spacearea for the Internountain neighborhood.
