Amendment to the 1999 N.E.C. Town of Vail Ordinance 1O-1-6.
Overhead services are not allowed in the Town of Vail.
Underground services have to be in conduit (PVC) from the transformer to the electric meter, main disconnect
switch and to the first electrical distribution circuit breaker panel.
The main disconnect switch shall be located next to the meter on the exterior wall of the structure easily
accessible,
All underground conduits are required to be inspected before back-filling the trench.
In multi-family dwelling units, no electrical wiring or feeder cables shall pass from one unit to another' Common
walls and spaces are accepted.
NM Cable (Romex) is not allowed in commercial buildings or strucUres o<ceeding three (3) stories.
No use of aluminum wire smaller than size #8 will be permitted with the Town of Vail.
TOWN OF VAII ELECTRICAL PERMIT GUIDEUNES
All installations of exterior hot tubs or spat rcquire a DRB approval from planning. This appllcation will
not be accepted without a copy of the DRB approval form attached (if applicable).
If this permit is for installation of an exterior hot tub or spa on a new elevated platform or"deck over
30" above grade, you must also obtain a building permit.
If this permit is for installation of an exterior hot fub or spa on any existing deck or devaH plafform,
a structural engineer must review the existing condition and veriry that it will support the added
concenbated load. Please provide a copy of the structural engineers wet stamped letter or drawing
with this application.
If this is a remodel in a multi-family building with a homeowners association, a letter of permission
from the associaUon is required.
o If this permit is for a commercial space, two (2) sets of stamped drawings are required'

from bottom edge to bottom edge equal to the maximum
exposure ofthe slate (see Fig.1). Adjustments should be
made rvhen workug to a ndge so the bottom edge ofthe
second-to-the-last row of felt lands at 22 inches from the
peak of the ridge. This will allow for proper resting of the
frnal slate course. On roof slopes less than 4:12, a Tlpe 30-36"
minimum underlayment is to be applied with an overlap no
less than 2 inches prior to the minimum 18" interlayment.

Each piece is to be fastened \rith two nails, the recommended
nail axea is I to 1 l/4" from the edge and between 3/4 and 1 3/4"
above the exposure line. Nail targets are provided but you are
not requhed to use them. If y'ou choose not to na into the
targets, avord na ing directly on a reinforcing rib or nailing
too high where you miss the head lap ofthe piece below

PRE-APPLICATION CONFERENCE
A pre-application conference with Town of Vail staff is required. No application can be accepted
unless the mandatory pre-application meeting has been completed. It is the applicant=s
responsibility to schedule thb meeting by calling 970479-2128.
TIME REOUIREMENTS
The Design Review Board meets on the lst and 3rd Wednesdq6 of each month. A complete
applicatbn form and all accompanying material must be accepted by the Community Development
Department a minimum of three and a half (3 1/2) weeK prior to the date of the DRB public
hearing.
REVIEW CRITERIA
Your proposal will be revieured for cornpliance with the Design Guidelines as s€t forfi in Section 12-
11 of the Municipal Code.

V.STAFF APPROVAL
The Administrator may review and approve Design Review applications, approve with certain modifications,
deny the application, or may refer the application to the Design Review Board for decision. All staff
approvals are subject to final approval by the DRB. The following types of Deign Review applications may
be staff approved:
A. Any application for an addition to an existing building that is consistent with the architectural design,
materiab and colors of the building, and approval has been received by an authorized member of
a condominium association, if applicable;
B. Any application to modify an o(isting building that does not significantly change the existing planes
of the building and b generally consistent wih the architectural design, nnterials and colors of the
building, including, but not limited to e(erior building finish materiab (e.9. stoneworlg siding, roof
materials, paint or stain,), ocerior lighting, canopies or awnings, fences, antennas, satellite dbhes,
windowt skylights, siding, minor commercial facade improvements, and other similar modifhations;
C. Any application for site improvements or modifications including, but not limited to, driveway
modifrcations, site grading, site walb, rernoval or modifications to odsting landscaping, installation
of accessory structures or recreational facilities.
ADDMONAL REVIEW AND FEES
A. If this application requires a separate review by any local, state or Federal agency other than the
Town of Vail, the application fee shall be increased by $200.00. b<amples of such review, may
include, but are not limited to: Colorado Deparfnent of Highway Access Permits, Army Corps of
Engineers 404, etc.
B. The applicant shall be responsible for paying any publbhing fees which are in excess of 50% of the
application fee. If, at the applicant's request, any matter is postponed for hearing, causing the
matter to be republbhed, then the entire fee for such re-publication shall be paid by the applicanL

Pursuant to our conversation earlier this week, the above-referenced design review
application will be handled at the staff level. Following is a description of the submittal
items required for final staff review:
. A completed large-format site and landscaping plan. Please show a "limits of
disturbance fence" on the plan. A topographic survey will not be required for this
application.
. Detailed proposed driveway grades. lt appears the existing driveway exhibits
negative drainage, although this should be alleviated by the proposed storm drain.
. A preliminary title report (to verify easements and encumbrances).
. Large-format elevation drawings and floor plans.
. Appropriate design review fees ($50 for residential additions).
As we discussed earlier, the existing chain link fence dog run is a violation of Chapter
12-11,Yail Town Code. Approval of this remodel will be contingent upon either the
removal or the reconstruction (using acceptable building materials) of the dog run.
