Background: The Vail golf course is owned by the Town of Vail (TOV) and leased to the Vail Recreation District (VRD) to operate. The Vail Recreation District has drafted a master plan for the Vail Golf Course which included the renovation and maintenance of several golf holes on the golf course. In order to maintain 18 holes of golf during any renovation or maintenance on any given hole we propose to add a golf hole to the existing course. By having 19 holes available to play we will be able to work on the master plan without having a significant impact to the playability of the course Purpose: a 19th golf hole to ensure that 18 holes of golf are available for play evenThepurposeofthisprojectistoconstruct during renovation or maintenance of the existing golf holes. Details: The Vail Recreation District has been working with the Vail Golf Course design firm of Phelps / Atkinson. we have identified the existing 12th tee as a possible shared tee complex for the 19th hole with the green being located to the east of the existing we shelter. If the 19th hole were "in play" a golfer would hit 2 tee shots for both the h hole as well as the existing 12th hole. The golfer would then go and play the 19th hole first and then continue19t play on the 12th. This project involves importing material to build the new 19th tee as well as the 19th green. New tees and a green would then be shaped and sod installed. Irrigation is included in this project. A bunker would also be excavated to add a degree of difficulty to the shot on the 19th green. This golf hole will only be utilized when needed due to construction on other holes on the Vail Golf Course. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns regarding this submittal. Background: In 2010 the VRD drafted a master plan for the Vail Golf Course which included the renovation and maintenance of several golf holes on the golf course. Also included in the master plan was the construction of a 19th hole. The purpose of a 191h hole is to allow for 18 holes of golf to be played during the renovation or maintenance of any of the existing 18 holes. By having 19 holes available to play we will be able to work on the master plan without having a significant impact to the playability of the course. A 191h hole also provides the flexibility to utilize the hole early in the season should there be any turf damage or water issues on other areas of the course. The VRD has in the past had to play a limited course due to adverse spring conditions as well as damage caused by wildlife and severe winter conditions. Purpose: The purpose of this project is to construct a 19th golf hole to ensure that 18 holes of golf are available for play even during renovation or maintenance of the existing golf holes. Details: The Vail Recreation District has been working with the design firm of Phelps / Atkinson. We have identified the existing 12th tee as a possible shared tee complex for the 19th hole with the green being located to the east of the existing weather shelter. If the 19th hole were "in play' a golfer would hit 2 tee shots for both the 19th hole as well as the existing 12th hole from a shared tee box. The golfer would go play the 191h hole first and then continue play on the 12th. This project involves importing material to build the new 19th tee as well as the 19th green. New tees and a green would then be shaped and sod installed. Irrigation is included in this project. A bunker would also be excavated to add a degree of difficulty to the shot on the 19th green. This golf hole will only be utilized when needed due to construction on other holes on the Vail Golf Course or in the case of adverse conditions causing the closure of a hole on the course. Tom Kassm From: Vail Recreation District Date: 10/19/2012 RE: Vail Golf Course Hole #19 The Vail Recreation District (VRD) is currently working on plans to construct a new #19 golf hole on the Vail Golf Course. In association with this planning we have an opportunity to take advantage of some free material from the Ford Park project that we would like to use for this project. We are formally submitting an application for the storage of material within the 100 yr flood plain. We propose to install both silt fencing and straw waddle in the area for erosion controls. This material will also be covered for the winter to prevent contamination and erosion. We will have clearly defined limits of disturbance. We propose to begin hauling material on Thursday October 25. We will also begin the PEC process for the permanent placement of the material concurrent to the storage of material. We would like to appear before the Planning and Environmental Commission on January 14th 2013 and we will submit the required documentation associated with our request. Final installation of the #19 golf hole and utilization of the stored material would begin in April of 2013. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns regarding this submittal.
