SPECIAL INSPECT{ONS:
a. Special inspectians for epaxy ancnors r�re required per IBC Chapter 17. Periodic observations
of cons�ruction by the structural engineer are not cansidered to be special ir�spections.
STRUCTURAL WQ�D FRAMING:
a. Except where noted otherwise, ail 2'° nominal lumber, except studs, shall be Douglas Fir-Larch
#2 and better, and all solid timber beams and posts 3" nominal and wider sha{f be Qouglas
Fir-Larch �2.
b. Studs sha(1 be Stud grade and better pouglas Fir-Larch ar Hem Fir.
c. Built-up posta shal{ cansist of Qauglas Fir-Lgrch or Hem Fir �2 or better 2x4 or 2x6 studs
per plan and shc�ll be nailed tc�gether with 2 rows of 16d nails C�? 6" on center olong each
stud.
d. Except as noted otherwise, minimum nailing shall be provided as specified in the "F`astening
Schedufe" on the drawings (2009 IBC Table 2304.9.1).
e. Laminated veneer lumber (�.VL) shali have the faflowing minimum properties;

A. Top-loaded beams
i) For members 12" deep or iess, nail each mernber to the next with 2 raws of
16d nails at 12" a.c.
f. All lumber used in cc�nstruction shall Mave a maximur-n moisture content of 19%.
g. Drive pins specified on plan shall be powder actuated fiast�ners by Ramset, Powers, Hiiti, ar
approved equivalent. Fastener and load size shall be determined according to manufacturers
recommendations for materials being attach�d.
h. Framing Notes:
1. Interior Laad Bearing Wa1Is:
A. Interi�r laad bearing walls are 2x4 or 2x6 studs (as indicated on plan) C� 16" o.c.
with 1 f2" gypsum wallboard both sides unless noted otherwis�. Cap with a double
top plate installed to prc�vide averlapping at corners and at intersectians with other
partitions. If overlap is nat possible, strap tap plates with matal strap ties
�Simpson ST292 or equivalent�.
B. Floc�r or rc�of framing members must be aligned to bear within 5 inches of the
studs beneath.
2. Floor Construction:
A. Provide 3/4" thick APA rated Sturdifloar rated at 24" o,c., tongue and groove,
exposure 1. Glue and nail panels tn a!I supports with 8d nails spaeed at 6" along
pane! edges and at 12" along: intermedic�te supports. Instafl sheathing with long
dimension perpendicular ta joists and end jaints stagger�d,
B. Provide saiid blocking between flo�r joists at afl bearing locntions. Biocking materiai
shall match the floor joist material.
STRUCTURAL STEEL:
a. Structural steel W shap�s shall be ASTM A992. Qther rolied shapes, including plates and
angMes sht�ll be ,�STM A:S6. R�rund or rect�r��ulcar �IS� �hape� �hc�ll b� A�TM A�Ot� �r�tci� �.
b. All boits used in steel framing shall conform tc� ASTM Specification A325. Anchor bolts and
bolts used +"n timber cannectians may be ASTM A303, Bo►t sizes sha11 be 31�."� unlass noted
otherwise.
e. Typical framed beam connections shall consist of pairs af Y�." angles using the maximum
number of 3/�."� bolts cafled for in Table 10-1 or cc�mbination balts and welds in Tabie 10-2
of the AISC Manucsl {Thirteenth Edition}.
d. Epoxy anchors called for on the drawings sha{I be "Epcan" or "Rawl" or "Simpson'" or approved
equivalent anchor systems. Minimum ernbedments, if nat specificaCly indicated o� the
drawings, shali be according to the manufacturer's specifications.
e. AI! welding shall be dc�ne by an AWS quaiified welder.
f. Delay painting within 3" of field welds until welds are campleted.
GENERAL REQUIREMEtJTS:
a. Structural erectian and bracing: The structural drawings iflustrate the complsted s�ructure
with al! el�ments in their final positiQns, praperly supported and braced. The contract�r, in
the propsr sequence, shali provide sharirig and bracing as may be required during constructian
to achieve the finai completed structure. Contact structural engineer for cansultation {not in
ct�ntract} os required.
b. Dirnensions: Cneck all dimensions against architecturaf dre�wings prior to constructian. Qo
not scale drawinga.
c. Constructian practic�s: General contrc�ctar is responsible for means, rr►ethods, techniques,
sequences and pracedures for cQnstruction af this praject. Notify structural engineer of
omissians or canflicts between the warking drawings and existing conditians. Coordinate
requirements for rneGhanieal/electrical fplumbing penetrations through structural elements with
structural engineer. Jobsite safety is the sole respansibility of the contractor. All methods
used for constructian sht�ll be in accordpnce with the latest editians of the IBCfIRC.
d. Details not specifically shown on the drawings shaN be constructed in a manner similar to the
details that are shown for like conditions: These items shall be brought to the attention of
the structural engineer as saon as possibl� for apprava(. Approval shall be obtained prior ta
installatian.
e. !t is the respansibility of the contractor to cantact the structurai engineer at the appropriate
time to perform site observation visits. Qbservation uisits ta the jobsite by the engirr�er are
for detarmination of �eneral conforrnance� with the construction dacuments and shall not be
canstrued as inspection.
f. Though every effort is made to prov€de Cl C4tY1pI�t@ and clear set of constructian dacuments,
diserepancies or omissions may accur. Release of these drawings anticipates cac�peration and
continued communication between th� contractor, architect and engineer to provide the best
possible structur�. These drawings have been prepared fcar the use of a qualifiied cantractor
experienced in the canstruction techniques and systems depicted.
g. Existing structures: Contract�r shail be responsibie far verifying dimensions, elevations,
framing, faundation and crnything else thc�t may affect the w�rk shown on the drawings.
Underpinning, shoring and bracing af existing struetures shall be the respansibility of the
contractor.
