Dear Tom,
Tree Care and Forestry Consulting
Thank you for meeting with me yesterday. I returned to the site after our meeting and
inspected the spruce tree in question.
The tree(s) is a Colorado Spruce tree that is forked at the base. I inspected the trees as
two individuals but due to the connection at the base the treatment will apply to both
trees.
You called me to evaluate the potential construction impacts of adding a small patio
extension. During the visual inspection of the tree we identified a few external signs that
may indicate structural defects within the trunk. You asked that I further inspect the tree
to identify defects and provide possible risk management recommendations.
Tree #1W is a 25 inch diameter, 90 foot tall Colorado Spruce (Picea pungens). The tree
is forked at the base (Photo 2) and has a lean to the west. Most of the branches are
skewed to the west side on the lower 1/3 of the trunk. The needles have white spots
caused by scale insects and an abundance of needles are present at the base of the
tree. The foliage is dark green and several years of growth are present on the twigs.
Tree #2W is a 22 inch 95 foot tall Colorado Spruce tree. The tree has a flat spot on the
north side of the root collar and is slightly disfigured on the east side of the trunk. The
foliage is skewed to the east side on the lower portion of the trunk. The foliage quality is
similar to that on Tree 2W.
The trees are located behind the house and well within striking distance of at least 3
homes (Photo 1).

I
I tapped both trees with a mallet to listen for unusual sounds. Tree 2W yielded no
unusual sound but Tree 1W resonated like a drum. I followed up by extracting a core
from the north side of the root collar. The core sample was discolored and had no sound
wood below the bark.
Photo 1 Photo 2
In my professional opinion tree 1 E has defects significant enough to present a high to
extreme risk for failure. In the event of a failure this tree has a very high likelihood of
causing harm to persons or property.
I recommend removing Trees 1E and 1W at the earliest possible convenience to reduce
risk to persons and property.
Please contact me with any questions.
Sincerely
62ARA--

RE: railings
Hello Mike,
I talked with Fred and we are moving forward on the schedule for tree removal, however, we need two items addressed:
1. We need a letter of approval from the joint owner ASAP.
2. Discuss the management pricing .
Thank you,
Tom Warzecha

Fred,
We are looking into the tree issue(s), we are not authorizing the removal at this time. I will be getting back to
you very soon with our findings.

Thanks Mike, I really appreciate your help on this. I was just on the phone with Tom Warzecka. Can
you get the letter to him today (that the town is requiring from the joint property owner) in order to take
the tree down next week? I thought it was odd that the town would require the letter since the I think
there are two separate lots but never the less Tom says that they are.

Fred,
I have unlocked your front door and let Patricio in to finish the railings for the bunk beds.
I will check back in with him later this morning to verify the work is correct and complete.
