Thomas USDA Forest Service 970.827.57',t' ) .,\| Overview The Booth Creek Trailhead is located on the North Side of lnterstate 70 at the end of Booth Creek Road near the Vail Mountain School in Vail, CO. The trail accesses the Eagles Nest Wildemess within the Holy Cross Ranger District of the White River National Forest. The parking lot itself is owned by the Town of Vail, CO. ln 1997, there were over 13,000 visits to this trail. Purpose The purpose of this sign is to provide information on alternative recreation opportunities around the Vail Valley. The current user of the Booth Creek Trail may not be looking for a "wildemess' experience, but would be perfectly happy to do a shorter hike, have a picnic, or just find a nice view. There are currently concerns of overuse on both the trail and the parking area. Process The first stage in the process will be to put a trailhead sign approximately 4S" high by 36" wide covered wiih a plexiglass sheet in a highly visible spot in the parking area itself. There currently is a trailhead information board out of site from the parking lot, but by the time people get to it they are already committed to the trail. The new information board should be placed in a spot that will give visitors a chance to see the information on other opportunities before they are committed to staying in the area. The information board design is compatible with being expanded to a larger kiosk type board at a later stage. Goals The information on the board will include but is not limited to, information on other hikes in the Vail Valley, information on other recreation opportunities in the Town of Vail (Recreation Path, Alpine Gardens, Nature Center etc.), information on VailAssociates/Forest Service Partnership activities (guided hikes on Vail and Beaver Creek Mountain, Lift Rides, Piney Lake), as well as directions to places where they can find more information on all of these opportunities. ldeally, the design would include "Take One" boxes where information could be dispersed. The Town of Vail and Forest Service Logos would be displayed as well. The maintenance of this board would be done by the Forest Service, with input on the Town of Vail on what information should be shared. Costs. Trailhead Board with Plexiglass Cover and Posts:.
