Subject: Excavation Inspection for the Proposed Addition
Lot 7, Block 2 (2705 Bald Mountain Road)
Vail, Colorado
Job No. 98-074
As requested, a representative from our office inspected the foundation materials exposed in the
excavation at the subject site on June 16, 1998. The purpose of our inspection was to verifo that the
exposed materials would safely support a spread footing foundation system for the proposed addition.
The depth of the excavation varied from approximately 3.5 to 5.5 feet. The materials exposcd in the
bottom of the excavation consisted of fill. The fill was characterized by a dry, dense to very dense, silty,
sand and gravel with cobbles. The soils within the excavation were compacted in accordance with our
recommendations. In our opinion, the exposed soils will safely support a spread footing foundation
system designed for a maximum allowable soil bearing pressure of 2,000 psf. Our opinion is based on
the foundation soils remaining unsaturated.

I have reviewed tbe above referenced plans. The following items need to be revised on the site
plans:
1. The driveway is 18'widc, This may be reducedto 12'according to Town standards.
2. The slopc of the driveway is l1-13%. Is this an existing driveway or is it being rebuilt? Please
show existing and proposed driveway.
3. Please submit a lighting plan so Town Staff will be able to determine if the house is in
compliance with the Town of Vail lighting regulations.
4. Please provide a stamped topographic survey to allow thc Public Works Department to review
the grading plans.
5. Show existing and proposed grading around the new addition and how the contours tie into
the proposed addition.
6. Please submit a title report (Schedules A & B) to show any easements on the property.
