Paul Kuhn, project landscape architect with Winston and Associates, explained the
details of the proposed landscaping plan to the PEC.
Dalton Williams suggested that the dedicated turn lane on the eastbound l-70 off-ramp
should be separated so that this lane will avoid the Roundabout altogether. Leif stated
that this would require more asphalt but would improve the functioning of the
Roundabout. He said he would study this idea.
Mike Mollica inquired whether the World Championship Ski sign would be incorporated
into the Roundabout landscaping plan. Paul Kuhn responded that there were mixed
opinions on what should be done with the sign and that further discussion was needed
on this issue before a decision would be made. Dalton Williams stated that he would
like to see the sign incorporated into the Roundabout landscaping plan in some way.
Bob Armour was concerned that the flags could distract drivers who were in the
Roundabout. Dalton Williams stated that he would like lo see some sort of fundraising
etfort undertaken lo finance the cost of the flags and flagpoles.
Dalton also suggested that the infrastructure for future phases of the landscape plan
should be implemented with Phase I where this made financial sense.
Greg Amsden suggested that the discussion move on to the proposed lighting for the
Roundabout. One member asked about landscape accent lighting and Christmas tree
lighting. Paul said they had not considered those items yet. Paul Kuhn explained the
proposed lighting fixtures to be used with lhe proposed Roundabout to the PEC.
Further analysis will be done to determine the effectiveness of 'Village" light fixtures as
a replacement for tall poles around the south circle and down the Frontage Boad
towards the parking structures. Bob Armour was concerned that the amount of light
poles and flagpoles being proposed was excessive. Using multi-purpose poles was
suggested to reduce lhe number of poles.
Paul Kuhn explained the proposed signage plan to the PEC. Greg Hall stated that
CDOT was concerned with the size and number of the proposed signs. Jeff Bowen
felt that it was important to change the place names on roadway signs to say 'Vail
Village' instead of just "Village'. All PEC members agreed that the chevron should be
deleted and the white arrow with blue background was sufficient, along with tratfic flow
and deflection angles at each leg of the Roundabout, to ensure that people would go
the correct direction in the circle. CDOT and FHA would have further input on the sign
"issue".

Jack Hunn stated that since the DRB had requested that the PEC review window
modilications to the tent as a condition of approval that he felt that it was a good
opportunity for the PEG to look at the currently proposed design of the tent.
Bill Anderson did not have any concerns about the proposed plastic windows.
Bob Armour and Jeff Bowen did not have any issues with the proposed plastic
windows.
Allison Lassoe stated that she was abstaining from this item. :
Dalton Williams was concerned that the wooden exterior would give the appearance of
a more permanent structure. He stated that he was not in favor of the proposed
plastic windows.
Kathy Langenwalter summarized that the PEC would like to see the logs eliminated
from the gable ends and that the PEC did not have a western theme in mind when
they approved the original tent. She stated that she would prefer flags as opposed to
additional railings for the tent.
Jeff Bowen made a motion to approve the proposed tent modifications, that the
proposed log treatments not be required, that the poles be round rather than square,
that railings not be required and that the windows within the gables not be allowed.
