BUILDING PERMIT ISSUANCE TIME FRAME
If this permit requires a Town of Vail Fire Department Approval, Engineer's (Public Works) review and approval,
a Planning Department review or Health Department review, and a review by the Building Departmenf the
estimated time for a total review will take as long as three (3) weeks.
All commercial (large or small) and all multi-famif permits will have to follow the above mentioned maximum
requirements. Residential and small projects should take a lesser amount of time. However, if residential or
smaller projects impact the various above mentioned departments with regard to necessary review, these
projects may also take three (3) weeks to review and approve.
Every attempt will be made by this department to o<pedite this permit as soon as possible.
I, the undersigned, understand the plan check procedure and time frame. I also understand that if the permit
is not picked up by the expiration date, that I must still pay the plan check fee and that if I fail to do so it may
affect future permits that I apply for.

This project is restricted from the burning of wood
in fireplaces. Unless the 1ot is a restricted lot
in size, three gas logs fireplaces and three gas
appliances are permitted per unit a11owed. Gas log
chimneys enclosures shaLl be one hr. protecEed.
In bathrooms with a Eub or shower and in laundry
rooms a mechanical ventilation system connect.ed
direct.ly to the outside shall be provided. Bathrms

Gas fireplace appliances are required to be
installed as per listing installation instructions -with a "B' vent on1y. Combustion air must be
supplied from the outside for all new construction
in the Town of Vai1.
Supply a mechanical drawing indicating design of
system, size (BTU and volume) of equipment, vent
locat.ion and termination, and combustion air to be
supplied prior to any installation.
Due to Colorado State SEatutes, al-1 sj-nk fauce!ts
and shower heads are required to utilize flow
restriction devices. Also, the maximum waEer closet
flush usaqe is limited to a maximum of 3.5 gallons

III. IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING ALL SUBMISSIONS TO THE DRB:
A. In addition to meeting submittal reguirements, theapplicant must stake and tape the project site toindicate property lines, building lines and buildingcorners. All trees to be removed must be taped. A1lsite tapings and staking must be completed prior to the
DRB site visit. The applicant must ensure that stakingdone during the winter is not buried by snow.
B. The revierr process for NEW BUILDINGS normally requirestwo separate meetings of the Design Review Board: aconceptual approval and a final approval . Applicantsshould plan on presenting their development proposal ata mj.nimum of two neetings before obtaining finalapproval .
C. Applicants who fail to appear before the Design ReviewBoard on their scheduled meeting date and who have notasked in advance that discussion on their item bepostponed, will have their items removed from the DRBdocket until such time as the item has beenrepublished.
D. The following items may, at the discretion of thezoning administrator, be approved by the Comnunity
Development Department staff (i.e. a formal hearingbefore the DRB may not be required):

GENERAL
This report presents the results of our geotechnicaL investigation
conducted on the site of the proposed hone at Lot 15, Fiting 1, westVail Village Subdivision, Vail, Co.
The investigation was performed to provide sufficient infornation aboutthe supporting soil mantle to enable a suitable foundation design forthe proposed home. our investigation specifically did not addresa anyslope stability considerations.
The conclusions and recommendations presented herein are based on thedata gathered during our site and laboratory investigations and ourexperience with sinilar soil conditions. This investigation was
conducted in accordance with presently accepted soils engineeringprocedures consistent with the proposed development and no warranty isimplied.
FIELD INVESTIGATION
The subsurface soil conditions were explored on May 25, 1993, by two
open test pits dug with a CAT 9318 backhoe. See Figure 1 for test pitlocations. The below footing soils exposed on site are profiled inFigure 2. Laboratory soil sanples were obtained with a Hand DriveSarnpler. Unconfined penetrometer tests were performed during thedigging operations. See Figure 2 for unconfined values.
LABOP"ATORY TESTING
Laboratory testing and analysis included swell consolidation testingperforrned at the Engineering Designworks laboratory in SteamboatSprings, Co. See Figure 3 for details.
PROPOSED CONSTRUCTION
Conventionally framed two story home with walk-out basernent on a steepsloping site.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Laboratory tests indicate that the clays and sands with organics andsnall rocks located in the normal bearing strata approxinately 2' to 8'
below existing grade are non-expansive. Any conventional foundationbearing on these soils should be designed for 2,loo psf maximum soilsbearing pressures, although organics were present to the fuI1 depth ofthe test pits. Conventional foundation practice typically prohibitsbearing over soils containing organic uraterials. Unacceptable
foundation movement is always a possibifity when bearing on organic-
containing soils, although the owner rnay opt to place his foundationover these soils due to economic considerations.

Based on the above findings and the proposed construction, we feer thesafest type of foundation to be drilled caissons or piers, extendingbelow all organics. This foundation type would involve further soilsinvestigation via drilling.
Any foundation at this site must be designed and constructed in strictconformance with the following precautions:
1. Foundation grade beams should be designed and reinforced to span anunsupported distance of at least 1O feet.
2. Inspect excavation for soil uniforrnity and type prior to anyfoundation construction. AII loose or soft pockets of soil withinthe loaded depth of the footings should be removed and replacedwith a well compacted gravel; or the footings extended to lower,more competent soils. Compacted fitls to be compacted in 8[ liftsto a ninimum of 95t Modified proctor Density with gravels at amoisture content within 24 of optirnurn. properly placed andconfined washed rock may be used in lieu of cornpacted fit1s.
3. Slab construction is not recommended, but if it is to beinplemented, it should be constructed over fi1Is, as describedabove. The risk of slab rnovement decreases with increased filldepth. 12n-24tt of fill is reconmended. Remove all topsoil,organics, and other objectionable materials prior to placing fills.Slipjoint a1l floor slabs at all interfaces and provide forpossible slab movement under partition walls. Slabs should not be
used for bearing of structural components.
