There is a depth limitation of 6 3i4" for the header, including the steel and the wood plate attached to the bottom flange for the garage door. The headers shall be either W6x15 or WSx19 steel beams. The 6" beam will need a 3/4" wood plate attached to the bottom flange, and the 5" beam will need a 1 112" wood plate. In either case, the trimmers at each end of each opening shall be (31-2x6 studs. I also observed the locations where it is proposed to install 6'-0" wide french doors, in the recreation room downstairs and at either side of the fireplace in the living room. This will be acceptable because the door locations are centered between the roof and floor beams, so there is no bearing on the walls above the door openings.
