In connection with our compliance with Town OrdinanceNo. 3, 1984, I enclose a proposal dated Decernber 27 | 1985
we have received from Security Consultants International.
Depending upon the type of installation, the cost for ourbuilding would range between $14,000 and S20,000. Prior toauthorizing any work by any installation company, the Boardof Managers has asked me to inguire concerning the requirementsapplicable to our building and further; if the enclosed proposalis excessive in terms of its scope.
As you may be a\rare, our two-story wood frame building
stas constructed about 1953-64. tt consists of 24 individually
owned units and has a number of different entrances, any oneof which does not access more than six condominiums. We havereceived some information indicating that our building might.for some reasons, be exempt from coverage under this ordinanceor at least not be subject to the comprehensive coverage setforth in the SCI proposal. This is particularly true as to
whether or not we will be required to retrofit centrally monitored
smoke detectorg in each of the living areas.
In order for us to know exactly what we are requiredto do, would you please take a look at this proposal and give
us an answer at your earliest convenience. I understand that
Gary Murraine of the Building Department may have already
looked into the situation at the request of our resident manager,
Sue Schmidt.

BUILDING PERMIT ISSUANCE TIME FRAME
If this permit requires a Town of Vail Fire Department Approval, Engineer's (Public Works)
review and approval, a Planning Department review or Health Depaftment review, and a review
by the Building Department, the estimated time for a total review will take as long as three (3)
weeks.
All commercial (large or small) and all multi-family permits will have to follow the above
mentioned maximum requirements, Residential and small projects should take a lesser amount
of time. However, if residential or smaller projects impact the various above mentioned
departments with regard to necessary review, these projects may also take three (3) weeks to
review and approve.
Every attempt will be made by this depaftment to expedite this permit as soon as possible.

PUBLIC WORKS AND THE PUBLIC WAY PERMIT PROCESS
How it relates to Building Permits:
Fill out the attached check list with the Building Permit Aoolication.
If yes was answered to any of the questions then a "Public Way" permit is required. You
can pick up an application at either Community Development, located at 75 South Frontage
Road or Public Works, located at 1309 Elkhorn Drive.
Notice sign-offs for utility companies. ALL utilities must field verify (locate) respective
utilities prior to signing application. Some utility companies require up to 48 hours notice to
schedule a locate.
A construction traffic control/staging plan must be prepared on a separate sheet of paper.
An approved site plan may also be used. This plan will show locations of all traffic control
devices (signs, cones, etc.) and the work zone, (area of construction, staging, etc.). This
plan will expire on November lst and will need to be resubmitted for consideration for
approval through the winter. Be aware that your resubmission for winter may be denied
depending on the location of construction.
Sketch of work being performed must be submitted indicating dimensions (length, width
and depth of work). This may be drawn on the traffic control plan or a site plan for the job,

As soon as the permit is approved, the Building Department will be notified, allowing the
"Building Permit" to be released. Please do not confuse the "Public Way Permit" with a
"Building Permit".

Permits are valid only until November 15th. A new Public Way Permit is required

d Unla*ful deposits: Subject to subsection C thereof, it is unlawful for any person to litter, track or
deposit, or cause to be littered, tracked or deposited, sand, gravel, rocks, mud, dirt, snow, ice, or any
other debris or material upon any street, sidewalk, alley or public place, or any portion thereof.
d Notice; Abatement: The Director of Public Works may notiff and require any person who violates or
causes another to violate the provision of subsection A hereof, or who has in the Director's employment
a person who violates or causes another to violate the same, top remove such sand, gravel, rocks, mud,
dirt, snow, ice or any other debris or material within twenty four (24) hours after receipt of said notice
by the Director of Public Works. In the event the person so notified does not comply with the notice
wlthin the period of time herein specified, the Director of Public Works, or other authorized agent, may
cause any such sand, gravel, rocks, mud, dirt, snow, ice, debris or any other material to be removed
from any street or alley at the expense of the notified.

Overhead services are not allowed in the Town of Vail.
Underground services have to be in conduit (PVC) from the transformer to the electric meter, main disconnect
switch and to the first electrical distribuUon circuit breaker panel.

All underground conduits are required to be inspected before back-filling the trench.
In multi-family dwelling units, no electrical wiring or feeder cables shall pass from one unit to another. Common
walls and spaces are accepted.
NM Cable (Romex) is not allowed in commercial buildings or structures exceeding three (3) stories.
No use of aluminum wire smaller than size #8 will be permitted with the Town of Vail.
TOWN OF VAIL ELECTRICAL PERMIT GUIDELINES
All installations of exterior hot tubs or spa's require a DRB approval from planning. This application will
not be accepted without a copy of the DRB approval form attached (if applicable).
If this permit is for installation of an exterior hot tub or spa on a new elevated platform or deck over
30" above grade, you must also obtain a building permit.
If this permit is for installation of an exterior hot tub or spa on any existing deck or elevated platform,
a structural engineer must review the existing condition and verify that it will support the added
concentrated load. Please provide a copy of the structural engineers wet stamped letter or drawing
with this application.
if this is a remodel in a multi-family building with a homeowners association, a letter of permission
from the association is required.
