RE: Clearance around Fire Hydrant at 770 Potato Patch Dr. (in front of unit #13)
Dear: Potato Patch Townhome Association,
On behalf of the Eagle River Water & Sanitation District ( ERWSD), I am writing to inform you that
during a routine inspection we discovered that the fire hydrant adjacent to this property, does not meet
ERWSD's standards for clearances around fire hydrants. This standard was adopted in 1999. The
landscaping is obstructing access to the fire hydrant. Please see the enclosed photo for more detail.
ERWSD's Rules and Regulations address clearance requirements:
4.5.9 Clearances around Hydrants
No landscaping, retaining walls, or buildings may obstruct the access to fire hydrants. Minimum
clearances must be maintained around fire hydrants to facilitate their use. Customers are responsible
to maintain a seven foot (7) clearance on either side (where 2%" connectors are located), four foot
(4) clearance (including landscaping, retaining walls) on back, ten foot (10) clearance in front, and
twenty -five foot (25) clearance above all fire hydrants.
For the safety of your client and their neighbors it will be necessary to clear this obstruction. Once the
landscaping has been cleared from around the fire hydrant, please call or email me to let me know the
work has been completed. However, if the clearance is not in compliance within 30 days of the date of
this letter, ERWSD will complete the landscaping modification at your cost and the removed
landscaping materials will be left on site for your disposal.
If you have any questions or comments regarding this issue, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank
