Dear Mr. Ctovarre:
As requested, a repres�ntative oiHepworth-Pawlak Geotechnical, Ync. observed the
e�cavation for the addition at the subject site on June ] 0, �00$ tv evaluate the soils
exposed far foundation support. The findings of our observations and recommendations
for ki�e faundation design are presented in this report. 'T'he serv�ices were perfarmed in
accordance with aur agreemant for professiona! engineerin� serviees te Woodstone
Homc�, datrd May 30, 20U8.

The addition will be a one and tr�vo story wood frame structure aver a cra.r�+lspace.
F�undations were designeci hased on an asstrmfxi A1lnwahle vnil hearing presseu�e of 2�000
psf.
At the time of our visit to th� site, the foundation excavation had been cut in two levels
fram 2 h to S feet belov►► the adjacent ground surface, The existing footing fnr the house
was exposed $t the bottom pf the addition excavation. Steel reinforc�ment had been
doweled in the e�isting fooCing The sails exposed in the bottorn of the e�cavation
consisted af clayey gra�vell�+ sand with cvbblcs in the lorn+er, northwest level and very
clayey sand in the shallo�+'�r, northem cut. No £ree water was observed in the excavatron
and the soils were siightly moist to moist.
Considering ths canditi�ns exrnsed in the excavatiun and the nature of Che propos�d
construction, spread faotings p]aced on �ha undisturbed natural soil designerd for an
allowahle soil bearing pressure of 2,000 psf can be used for support o�the proposed
addition �uvith a risk of dif�'erential settlement. Footings should be a minimum width of 1b
inches for continuous walls and 2 feet for columns. L,00se dist�rbed soils and any
remaining fill in footing areas should be removed and tihe bearing level extended down to
khe undisturb�d natural soils. Exterior footin�s should be provided witri adequate soil

The recominendations submitted in this letter �re based an our obscrvation aithe soils

stud� ia based oa the assumption that soils beneath tha footings have equal or bettar

indiested in this report hecau�e nfP�gc9h1� variatinn� in i:he st�h�urface cnndifii�Yis_ Tn
orde�r to rev�at the nature and extent of variatinns in the snbsurface conditio1�S below the
excavation, drillin� v�►ould 6e r0quired, rt is possible the data obtained by sUbsurfac�
exploration could change th� recommendations cant�ined in �his l�tter. Otrr services da
not include determining the presence, p�evention or possibility of mold or ather biolog�cal
