RE: Grease Duct Clean-outs and Test, Adjust& Balance Report
Items•
1. Section 506.3.8.2 of the 2009 IMC requires inline fans to have clean-outs at both the inlet
and outlet of the fan. Each kitchen exhaust fan (KEF-1 &KEF-2) has two built-in access
doors which can serve as clean-outs. Because the doors are located on the upstream side �
of the impeller,these can count as clean-outs for the inlet side of the fan. There are field
installed clean-outs at the outlet side of each fan. Therefore,the installation meets the
intent of the cited code section.
2. We have reviewed the TAB Report(dated 12/15/12) and have the following comments:
a. All fan airflow is within 10%of design (industry standard)and we take no 4
exception to the restaurant opening to the public tomorrow, as planned.

b. MAU-1 make-up air unit is at 91%of design airflow. Please have the TAB �
contractor adjust the drive system to achieve 100%. It is my understanding `
that a pulley is on order and once installed, 100%will be possible. Looking at the
current amp draw as compared to the max amp rating of the motor,there is
sufficient capacity to achieve 100%.
c. KEF-1 kitchen exhaust fan is at 90%of design airflow. Please have the TAB =
contractor adjust the drive system to achieve 100%. Looking at the current 3
amp draw as compared to the max amp rating of the motor,there is sufficient
capacity to achieve 100%.
d. Please submit a final TAB Report to Rader Engineering for our records.
