If this permit requires a Town of Vail Fire Department Approval, Engineer's (Public Works)
review and approval, a Planning Department review or Health Department review, and a review
by the Building Department, the estimated time for a total review will bke as long as three (3)
weeks.
All commercial (large or small) and all mulU-family permits will have to fo|low the abore
menuoned maximum requirements. Residential and gnall projects strould take a lesser amount
of time. However, if residenual or smaller pCIects impact the various above mentioned
departments with regard to necessary review, these projects may also take three (3) weeks to
review and approve.
Every attempt will be made by this department to oeedite this permit as soon as possible.

How it relates to Building Permits:
) Fill out the attached check list with the Buildino Permit Aoolication.
If yes was answered to any of the questions then a "Public Way" permit is required. You
can pick up an application at either Community Dwelopment, located at 75 South Frontage
Road or Public works, locaEd at 1309 Elkhom Drive.
) Notice sign-offs for utility companies. ALL utilities must field veriff (locate) respective
utilities prior to signing application. Some uulity companies require up to 48 hours notice to
schedule a locate.
) A construction traffic controfstaging plan must be prepared on a separate sheet of paper.
An approved site plan may also be used. This plan will show locations of all traffic conEol
devices (signs, cones, etc.) and the work zone, (area of construction, staging, etc.). This
plan will oeire on November 1st and will need to be resubmitted for consideraUon for
approval through the winter. Be aware that your resubmission for winter may be denied
depending on the location of construction.
> Sketch of work being performed must be submitted indicating dimensions (length, width
and depth of work). This may be drawn on the traffic control plan or a site plan br the job.
) Submit completed application to the Public Work's office fur review. If required, locates will
be scheduled for the Town of Vail electricians and inigation crew. The locates take place in
the moming, but may require up to 48 hours to perbrm.
> The public Workt Construction Inspector will review the applicauon and approve or deny
the permit. You will be contacted as to the status and any requirements that may be
needed. Most permits are released within 48 hours of being received, but please allow up
b one (1) week to process.
> As soon as the permit is approved, the Building Department will be notified, allowing the
"Building Permif'to be released. Please do not mnfuse the "Public Way Permif' with a
"Building PermiU'.
) NOTE: The above proeess is fior work in a public way ONLY. Public IYay
Permits are valid only until l{ovember 15th. A nerr Public Way Permit is rcquired
each year if nvork is not complete. Re-application each November 15th does not
mean an automatic renewal.

o The Town of Vail Building Department has developed the following procedures to
ensure that new conshuction sites have adequately established proper drainage
from building sites along and adjacent to Town of Vail roads or streets.
o The Town of Vail Public Works Department will be required to inspect and approve
drainage adjacent to Town of Vail roads or streets and the installation of temporary
or permanent culverb at access points from the road or street onto the construction
site. Such approval must be obtained prior to any requests for inspection by the
Town of Vail Building Department for footings, temporary electrical or any other
inspection. Please call Leonard Sandoval at479-2198 to request an inspection from
the Public Works Department. Allow a minimum of 24 hour notice.
o Also, the Town of Vail Public Works Department will be apprcving all final drainage
and culvert installation with resulting road patching as necessary. Such approval
must be obtained prior to any Final Certificate of Occupancv issuance.

o Unlawful deposits: Subject to subsection C thereof, it is unlawful for any person to litter, tnck or
deposit, or cause b be littered, tracked or deposited, sand, gravel, rocks, mud, dirt, snow, ice, or any
sther debris or material upon any stre€t, sidewallq alley or public place, or any portion thereof.
o Notice; Abatement: The Director of Public Works may notiff and require any person who violates or
causes another to violate the provision of subsection A hereof, or who has in the Directo/s employment
a person who violates or c:tus€s another b violate the same, top remo\€ such sand, gravel, rock, mud,
dirt, snow, ice or any other debris or material within twenty four (24) hours after receipt of said notice
by the Director of Public Works. In the event the penson so notified does not comply with the notice
within the period of time herein specified, the Director of Public Works, or other authorized agent, may
cause any such sand, gravel, rocks, mud, dirt, snow, ice, debris or any other material to be removed
from any street or alley at tfie o<pense ofthe noUfied.

before the Municipal Court of the Town for said violations, and upon being found guilty of a violation

EXTERIOR OPENING PROTECTION
The existing west exterior wall is located less than 20 feet from the
west property line and does not otherwise border a public way. For an
R3 occupancy of Type III 1-Hour construction, Sec. 503.2 and Table 5-Arequire that any openinqs in the west wal1 be protected by an approvedfire assembly having a minimum rating of three-fourths hour. Eitherprovide specifications for assernblies meetinq these requirements orprovide a stamped report and specifications from a guatified, registeredfire protection engineer for alternative assernblies that provide theequivalent of 2 -hour fire resistance. Note that this means thaL any
windows located in the wesl wa1l must not be openable or operable and
must be permanently affixed in the closed position. Any door
assenlclies must carry at least a 3/4 -hour rating and must be self-closing and latching.

evident that ow structual engineer was unable to give us accurate drawings because ofhidden elements within the scope of
work. You had told us that this was o.k. with you, and we want to make sure that you know our plan. Thus, we will be
submitting stamped and sigred structural drawings as soon as demo is started and all issues conceming structure are
