APPUCATION
Desagned to signal any waterflow condition in a
wet-pipe sprinkler system that equals or exceeds
the discharge from one sprinkler head. Such llow
may be due to fire, leakage or accidental rupture
of the piping.
Installed on main risers lo give a syslem waterflow
signal, or on feed mains supplying sub-risers or
cross mains to give a sectional waterflow signat.
They also are installed on cr(xts mains or branch
tines to give a walerflow signal by zone or area.
Normally this type of piping is found in:
1. Wa.ehouses
2. Large buildings
3. Industrial plants
4. Industrial storage
5- Aircraft hangars
6. Retail establishments
7. High-rise buildings
Compatible with anv appropriate control panel to:
1. Operale local alarm signals (Bell at Riser)
2. lndicate signals on annunciator panels
3. Trip a municipal fire alarm box
4. Start fire pumps
5. OR ANY OTHER FUNCTION THAT CAN BE
INITIATED OR CONTROLLED BY THE OPEN-
ING OR CLOSING OF A SWITCH CONTACT.
OPERATION
When a flow of water occurs, the vane is deflected
actuating lhe control linkage to the switch. The
conlrol linkage incorporates a pneumatic retard
element to prevent false signals trom being given

OPERATION
NIP SERIES
The NIP series switch is mounted on a valve with
the actuator arm normally resting against the
movable target indicator assembly. lf the normal
position of the valves is altered, the valve stem
moves, forcing the actuator arm to operate the
switch. The switch is so designed that it will oper-
ate between the first and second revolution of the
valve control wheel. When the stem has moved no
more than onejifih of the distance lrom its nor-
mal position it will operate.
The switch will also give a TAMPER INDICATION
if the unit is removed from. its mounting or if the
housing cover is removed.
NGV SERIES
When the switch is mounted on a valve the aciu-
ator arm normally resls in a notch f iled in the
valve stem. lf the normal position of the valve is
altered, the valve stem moves forcing the actuator
arm out of the notch and causing the switch to
operate. The switch is so designed that it will
operate between the f irst and second revolution
of the valve control wheel, when properly in-
stalled.
The switch will also give a TAMPER INDICA.TION
if the unit is removed from its mounting or il the
housing cover is removed.

These valves are designed for general service where tight shut off and frequent use are
desared. They are especially recommended for use with steam, air, oil, water and gas
service, where non-metallic discs are suited.
A swivel disc holder permits dasc to wear evenly and provide a tight
load conditions. They are constructed so that they can be repacked
in the fully opened position, while under full pressure. These valves
replaceable non-metallic discs, Teflon* impregnated asbestos pack-

Product Description
The Reliable Model G Automatic Sprinkler utilizes tne
center strut solder in cornpression principle of construc-
tion. The fusible alloy is captured in the cylinder of the
solder capsule by a stainless steel ball. When the fusible
alloy melts, the ball moves into the cylinder allowinq the
cylihder to fall away from the sprink'ler. When this"hap-
pens, the lever is releasedto spring free frornthesprinkler
so that all of the operating parts clear {rom the wateMay
alloriving the deflector to distribute the discharging water.
Except for the parts in the cylinder as mentioned
above, the sprinkler components are made from copper
based alloys lor maximum conosion protection. Lead
plated, wax coated or wax oryer lead plated sprinklers are
available for specially severe environmerits. Chrome
plated sprinklers are available for decorative purposes.
All sprinklers are individually hydrostatically tested.
All.sprinkbrs are identified as to their fusing point by
makings tl'rgt appear on serreral of the opera:tinS parti
and by an identifying colorthat appears on the frdme.
SprinklerTypes
Standad Upright-This dellector configuration is nor
matry used wth exposed piping installations. Water is
distnbuted laterally.and dovnward in a wide pattern ap
proximating a hemisphere which is completelv and unr
formly filled with water in he lorm of small dropi or sprav
At a sprinkler height of '10 feet, a circular area of approii-
mately 20 feet in diameter is covered bv the water dis-
charged at the minimum pressure.
Standard Pendenuhis deflector configuration is nor-
mally used where the space abwe the piping is not
aoequare or where a concealed piping installation is em_
ployed. The discharge charactenstics of the Standaro
Pendent are virtually irJentical to the Standard Upright as
oescnoeo aDove.
lrtge and Small Orifice-By varying the orifice size, a
large or smallorifice sprinkler is cre6ted that will distribue
as much as 40pl" more water or 65% less water than the
normal 14" orifice sprinkler. These sprinklers are identified
by the orifice size that is stamped in the base of the
sprinkler and by the pintle that extends from the deflec-tor-the exception is the Large Orifice Sprinkler with the
%" NPT inlet thread where the size of the inlet is sufiicient
to classify this sprinkler as one having a larger than stan-
dard orifice.
Conventional-This dellector confiouration is used orr
marily in those countries where the f d'.C. installation nibs
have precedence. The sprinkler is designed to distribute
a portionof itswaterdischarge upward againstthe ceiling
with tfp balance downward. lt mav be installed in either
the Upright or the Pendent position. Sprinklers wifr con
ventional deflectors are available with orifice sizes corre
sponding to light, ordinary and extra-high hazard
installations.
Appllcation and Installa$on
Standard sprinklers are used in fixed fire orotection svs-
tems: Wet, Dry Deluge or Preaction. Carej must be eier-
cised that the orifice sizes, temperature ratings, deflector
styles and sprinkler spacings are in accordance Wth the
latest published standards of the National Fire Protection
Association or the approving authority having jurisdiction.
Thesprinklers must be installed with the Reliable Model
D Sprinkler Wrerch. Any oter type of wrench may danr-
age the sprinkler. Installatron and sale of automatic fire
sprinkler systens utilZing equipment manufacUred by
Reliable is perforned by a world-wide netvrork of instali-
ing distributors. Conzult the Yellcnv Pages under'Sprin

The Plaza Lodge wi1'l requ'ire a new electrical service which will come froma transformer on the south side of the Hill Building. Ted Husky of HolyCross Electric has given his approval for this inst;llation.
A new 4" water main will also be run. This line is needed to service theexisting fire protection system, as we1 I as the new. This line will be runin conjunction with upper Eagle Valley water & sanitation's new g-10 inchline. Upper Eagle plans to have this new line installed by our excavationcontractorn Baskin Bros., at the same time as we install the new 4,'fireprotection line. This concept has been approved by Dave Krenick and FredHaslee of Upper Eagle Valley.
-2 The popcorn wagon will be moved to the p'l anted island area just west of the" Plaza_Building. This will require some re-arrangement of the ex'i sting vegetationas well as relocation of existing utility raceway.
A new built-up roof will be applied to the Plaza Building which will be doneprior to June 1 - weather permitting.
Re-arrangemq!! 9f existing penthouse area at the south end of the buildingwith some additions to existing structure.
0ur projected construction schedule, attached, shows that 90% of exteriorwork should be completed by July.l, 1996.
/] It is our^hope that the T.0.v. will let us use the bus parking site east' of.the T.9,v._parking structure. This site would be utilized-for stagingand dumpsite location.

Access to Founders Plaza by Fire Dept. not cri tical but if access isin jeopardy, notify Fire Dept. as well as Building Dept.
Shoring of walls to be done on'ly for human protection - not to keep
access open to motorized traffic.
Went over meeting notes of 4/3/86:
a. Primary structural members not in L-hour assembly will need fireretardant spray.
b. South side bay windows could be protected via sprinkler heads @inside and outside of bay window in lieu of fire rated glass.
c. Third level corridor, if sprinklered, would not require addjtonalgyp board at ceiling. If not sprinklered, 5/B type X at corridorside only.
d. Corridor l-hour assembly to include 20 min. doors, door closures,
and smoke seals.
e. Sprinkler advantages on Item ZB of 4/3/86 meeting notes is 0.K.
as written.
Mike McGee stated that cedar panelinE in place had been sprayed witha fire retardent at 3rd level .
Dick Duran stated the extreme combustable nature of the attic spaceand that even if the total sp1]nlJ"ersd systen did not go through, theattic space should be considertd anyway.
Some discussion on poly-buty1 , iron pipe, and copper for the sprinkler
system transpired.
Bill stated that the general feeling of the sprinkler companies he hadcontacted was that iron pipe would be the least costly in most of thebujlding with the exception of the lst level shop areis. In those areaspoly-butyl may be easier and quicker as far as iirstallation, as wellas lowered costs.
Bill stated that it was evident that complete plans are not availablebut anticipated start date was April 21,'19g6.' l,lhat does T.0.V. needto issue a permit.
