BUILDING PERMIT ISSUANCE TIME FRAME
If this permit requires a Town of Vail Fire Department Approval, Engineer's (Public Works)
review and approval, a Planning Depaftment review or Health Department review, and a review
by the Building Department, the estimated time for a total review will take as long as three (3)
weel(S.
All commercial (large or small) and all multi-family permits will have to follow the above
mentioned maximum requirements. Residential and small projects should take a lesser amount
of time. However, if residential or smaller projects impact the various above mentioned
departments with regard to necessary review, these projects may also take three (3) weeks to
review and approve.
Every attempt will be made by this department to expedite this permit as soon as possible.
I, the undersigned, understand the plan check procedure and time frame. I also understand
that if the permit is not picked up by the expiration date, that I must still pay the plan check fee
and that if I fail to do so it may affect future permits that I apply for.

Thanks.for your help this mornfng with the exiting issues, including your fax, I carefully revieined all sections ofthe Code to which yw refened m'e.
However, I would like to clarify-the use and Occupancies within this Project. The ground level area is to be Retrails^ales (Mercantile Group M). The lower leveiis Efuiinerv siorjsJ istd*dlt dioup sl with a smal ofrice(Business Group B) and a restroom. Ail ror,ver rever uses are tor Emirioy"Jr." ottLv.
lBc 2oo3 section 10'13, EXlr ACCESS,.paragraph 1013.3 relates to the Common path of egress travel. Thereare 3 exceptions to the common path of iraveinot exceeding ZS fee{.
Exception #1 stEtes that "the length of.a common path of egress traval in an occupancy in Groups B, F and Sshall not be more than 100 feet, [rovided tnit tn"'ouiioin-g is equipped throughout with an automatic spnhklersystem'" This seems to be conoboraled by Table 1018.2-, euiLoirigji witn onE "ii, nunlrn albws for a single exit, if
l9-T-of9 thgn s9.o"rypqnts and a 100 fooLtraveldistancewithln
"-n
"g'i o"*p"n"v- underTabte 1004.1.2, rheoccupancy loed for the lower level is S occupants.
I have ve.ry.carefulty recalculated the exac{ travel distance as measured from the farthest point of the lower levelto the exit door on Bridge Street. lt is 99.5 feet.
Therefore, surely one exit from the lower level satisfies all seclions of the lBc 2003 code. lf necessary, we couldadd a door with a closer at the, bottorn 9i tne stair, opening in the direction of travel. FM Approved and UL Listed Sprinkler pipe
Bull Moose Tube Company is a recognized producer
of quality pipe products. Our Schedule 10 and
Schedule 40 are FM Approved and UL Listed (for U.S.
and Canada), even though these products do not
require separate approvals and listings. Bull Moose
Tube made the decision to have them approved and
listed for your peace of mind. Our Sch. 10 and Sch. 40
have been through the same rigorous testing as our
other fine pipe products.
Bull Moose Tube's Sch. 10 and Sch. 40 pipes are
made to ASTM A13S and ASTM 4795. These
products are typically supplied with our protective
coating but can be supplied without the coating so
they can be hofdip galvanized to meet FM
requirements for use in dry systems in accordance
with the zinc coating specifications of ASTM 4795 or
ASTM A53.

PRODUCT DESGRIPTION
DIMENSIONS
FirelockrM products com-
prise a unique system spe-
cifically designed for fire
protection servj.ces. Fire-
Lock fuli-flow elbows and
tees are a CAD-developed,
hydrodynamic design that
has a shofter center-to-end
dimension than standard
fittings. A noticeable bulge
allows the water to make a
smoother turn to maintain
similar flow charactenstics
as standard full flow fit-
tings.
FireLockil
Fittings
Firelock fiftings are
designed for use exclu-
sively with Stfe 005 Fire-
Lock couplings. Use of
other couplings or flange

Firelockrv Style 005 rigid
coupling has a unigue, pat-
ented angle-pad design
which allows the housings
to offset whiie clamping the
grooves. By permitting the
housings to slide on the
angled bolt pads, rigidity is
obtained.
The Firelock couplings
provide rigidity for valve
connections, fue mains and
long straight runs. Support
and hanging req[irements
correspond to NFPA 13

System
Spnnkler Systems. Algle-
pad design permits assem-
bly by removilg one nut/
bolt ald swinging the
housing over the gasket.
This reduces components
to handle during assembly;
speeds ald eases installa-
tion on pipe grooved to
Victcau]ic specifi cations.

GENERAL INFORMATION
The Model VSR-F is a vane type watedlow switch
for use on wet sprinkler systems. lt is UL Listed,
FM, LPC and VdS approved for use on steel pipe;
schedules 10 thru 40, sizes 2" thru 8", as well as
50mm thru 200mm DIN 2458 pipe. 50mm DIN 2440
is also approved.
The unit may also be used as a sectional waterflow
detector on large systems.
The unit conlains two single pole, double lhrow,
snap aclion switches and an adjustable pneumatic
retard. The switches are acluated when a flow of at
Ieasl 38 liters per minute occurs downslream of the
device. The flow condition must exist for a oeriod
of time necessary lo overcome the selected retard
period.
ENGLOSURE: The unit is enclosed in a general
purpo6e, cast aluminum housing. The cover is held
in place with two lamper resistant screws which re-
quire a special key for removal. A field inslallable
cover tamper switch is available as an option which
may be used to indicate unauihorized removal of
the cover. See bulletin no. 5400775 for installalion
inslructions ol this switch.
INSTALLATION: See Fig.2
These devices may be mounted on a horizonlal or
vertical pipe. On horizontal pipe they should be in-
stalled on the top side o{ the pipe where lhey will be
accessible. The units should not be installed within
150mm of a fitting which changes the direclion of
the waterflow or within 600mm of a valve or drain.
(Follow the inslructions for VdS and FM regula-
tions.)
Drain the system and drill a hole in the pipe using a
circular saw in a slow speed drill. The 50mm and
65mm devices require a hole with a diameter ol
32mm *zmm. All other sizes reouire a hole with a
diameter ot 50mm i2mm.
Clean the inside pipe of all growth or olher material
for a distance equal to the pipe diameler on either
side of the hole.
Roll the vane so that it may be inserled into the
hole: do not bend or crease it. Insert the vane so
that the arrow on the saddle points in the direction
of the waterflow. Install the saddle strap and lighten
nuts alternately to an eventual 68 N-M of torque.
See Fig. 2. The vane must not rub the inside of the
pipe or bind in any way.

GENERAL INFORMATION
The OSYSU is used to monitor the open position of an OS
& Y (outside screw and yoke) type gate valve. This device
is available in two models; the OSYSU- j , containing one
set of SPDT (Form C) contacts and the OSySU-2, con-
taining two sets of SPDT (Form C) contacts. These
switches mount conveniently to most OS & y valves
ranging in size from 2" to 12" (50mm to 300mm). They will
mount on some valves as small as 112" (12,Smm).
The cover is held in place by two tamper resistant screws
that require a special tool to remove. The tool is fumished
with each device and should be left with the building owner
or responsible party. Replacement or additional cover
screws and hex keys are available. See ordering informa-
tion on page 4.
OPTIONAL COVER TAMPER SWITCH
A field installable cover tamper switch is available as an
option which may be used to indicate removal of the cover.
See ordering information on page 4.
TESTING
The OSYSU and its associaled protective monitoring sys-
tem should be inspected and tested in accordance with
applicable NFPA codes and standards and/or the authority
having jurisdiction (manufacturer recommends quarterly or
more frequently).

SMALL VALVE INSTALLATION
1 . Remove and discard "C" washer and roller from the trio
rod.
2. With the valve in the FULL OPEN position, locate the
OSYSU across the valve yoke as far as possible from the
valve gland, so that the trip rod lays against the non-
threaded portion of the valve srem.
3. Loosen the locking screw that holds the trip rod in place
and adjust the rod length (see Fig. 4). When adjusted
properly, the rod should extend past the valve screw. but
not so far that it contacts the clamp bar. Tighten the
locking screw to hold the trip rod in place.
NOTE: lf trip rod length is excessive, loosen the locking
screw and remove the trip rod from the trip lever. Using
pliers, break off the 1" (25mm) long notched section (see
Fig.5). Reinstall trip rod and repeat Step 3 procedure.
4. Mount lhe OSYSU loosely with the carriage bolts and
clamp bar supplied. On valves with limited clearance use
J-hooks supplied instead of the carriage bolts and clamp
bar to mount the OSYSU.
5. Mark the valve stem at the center of the trio rod.
6. Remove the OSYSU. File a 1l8" (3,2mm) deep groove
centered on the mark on the valve stem utilizing a 3/16"
(4,8mm) round, non-tapered file. Round and smooth the
edges of the groove to prevent damage to the valve
packing and to allow the trip rod to move easily in and out
of the groove as the valve is operated.
7. Mount the OSYSU with the trip rod centered in groove.
8. Final adjustment is made by loosening 2 screws (see Fig.
1) and sliding the OSYSU on the bracket. Ad.lustment is
correct when switches are not activated with the trip rod
seated in the valve slem groove and that the switches
activate when the trip rod moves out of the groove.
9. Tighten the adjustment screws and all mounting hardware.
Check to insure that the rod moves out of the groove easily
and that the switches activate within one turn when the
valve is operated from the FULL OPEN towards the
CLOSED oosition.
NOTE: CLOSE THE VALVE FULLY TO DETERMINE THAT
THE STEM THREADS DO NOT ACTIVATE THE SWITCH.
THE SWITCH BEING ACTIVATED BY THE STEM THREADS
COULD RESULT IN A FATSE VALVE OPENINDICATION.
