BUILDING PERMIT ISSUANCE TIME FRAME
If this permit requires a Town of Vail Fire Depaftment Approval, Engineert (Public Works)
review and approval, a Planning Department review or Health Department review, and a
review by the Building Depaftment, the estimated time for a total review will take as long
as three (3) weeks.
All commercial (large or small) and all multi-family permits will have to follow the above
mentioned maximum requirements. Residential and small projects should take a lesser
amount of time. However, if residential or smaller projects impact the various above
mentioned depaftments with regard to necessary review, these projects may take five
(5) weeks to review and approve.
Every attempt will be made by this department to expedite this permit as soon as
oossible.

PUBLNC WORKS AND THE PUBLrc WAY PERMIT PROCESS
How it relates to Buildine Permits:
Fill out the atbched check list with the Buildinq Permit Application.
If yes was answered to any of the questions dren a 'Public Way" permit is required. You
can pick up an application at either Community Development locabd at 75 Soutt Frontage
Road or Public Works, locaEd at 1309 Elkhorn Drive.
Notjce sign-offs for utility companies. ALL utilities must field veriff (locate) .respective
utilities prior b signing application. Some utility companies require up to 48 houts notice to
schedule a locab.
A construction traffic control/sbging plan must be prepared on a sepatate sheet of paper.
An approved site plan may also be used. This plan will show locations of all traffic control
devices (signs, cones, etc.) and the work zone, (area of construction, sbging, eb.). This
plan will expire on November 1st and will need to be resubmifed for consideration for
approval through he winter. Be aware that your resubmission for winter may be denied
depending on the location of construction.
Sketrh of work being pefformed must be submitted indicating dimensions (lengh, width
and dep$r of work). This may be drawn on the traffic control plan or a site plan for the ]rb.
Submit complebd application to $e Public Work's office for review. If required, locabs will
be scheduled for the Town of Vail elecUicians and irrigation crew. The locates |ake place in
the moming, but may require up to 48 hours to perform.
The Public Work's Construction Inspector will review the application and approve or deny
the permit. You will be conbcted as to $e sbtus and any requiremenb drat may be
needed. Most permib are released within 48 hours of being received, but please allow up
to one (1) week to process.
As soon as fte permit is approved, fte Building Deparbnent will be notified, allowing fie
"Building Permit" to be released. Please do not confuse tre 'Public Way Permit" with a
"Building Permit".
NOTE: The above process is for work in a public way ONLY. Public Way
Permits are valid only until November 15th. A new Public Way Permit is required
each year if r,trcrk is not complete, Re-application each November 15th does not
mean an aubmatic renevnal. (

DRAINAGE AND CULVERT INSPECTIONS ARE REOUIRED BY PUBLIC WORKS!
Please read and check off each of the items below:
The Town of Vail Building Department has developed the following procedures to ensure that new
construction sites have adequately established proper drainage from building sites along and
adjacenL to Town of Vail roads or streets.
The Town of Vail Public Works Depaftment will be required to inspect and approve drainage
adjacent to Town of Vail roads or streets and the installation of temporary or permanent culverts at
access points from the road or street onto the construction site. Such approval must be obtained
prior to any requests for inspection by the Town of Vail Building Depaftment for footings,
temporary electrical.or any other inspection. Please call Leonard Sandoval at 479-2198 to request
an inspection from the Public Works Depaftment. Allow a minimum of 24 hour notice.
Also, the Town of Vail Public Works DeparLment will be approving all final drainage and culveft
installation with resulting road patching as necessary. Such approval must be obtained prior to any
Final Ceftificate of Occupancv issuance.

u Unlawtul deposiE: Subject to subsection C hereof, it is unlawful for any person to litter, track or
deposil or cause to be littered, tracked or deposited, sand, gravel, rocG, mud, dir!, snow, ice, or any
other debris or material upon any sVeeq sidewalk, alley or public place, or any portion thereof.
o Notice; Abatement: The Director of Public Works may notifo and require any person who violates or
causes anotrer to violate the provision of subsection A hereof, or who has in fie Director's employment
a person who violates or causes another to violate the same, top remove such sand, gmvel, rocks, mud,
dirt, snow, ice or any oher debris or material within twenty four (24) hours after receipt of said notice
by fie Direcbr of Public Works. In the event the person so notified does not comply with the notice
within the period of time herein specified, the Director of Public Worls, or other authorized agent may
cause any such sand, gravel, rocks, mud, dirt, snow, ice, debris or any other material to be removed
from any street or alley at the expense of the notified.
o Summons and Penalty: As an altemative to the notce for removal provided in subsectjon B above,
any person who violates or caus$ anotrer to violate the same, may be issued a summons t0 appear
before fie Municipal Court of the Town for said violations, and upon being found guilty of a violation
hereunder be punished as provided in Section 14-1 of this code.
o Notice and Penalty: It is unlaMul for any person to ftil or refuse to comply with the notice of the
Director of Public Works as provided in subsection B hereol and any such person shall, in addition to
payment of he expense of removal incurred by fie Director of Public Works, as provided in subsection B
hereof, upon being found guilty of a violation hereunder, be punishable as provided in Section 14-1 of

o No person shall park any vehicle upon a sfeet or at any ofrer place within this Municipality in such a
manner or under such conditions as to interfere 'with the free movement of vehicular tmffic or proper

o Whenever any police officer finds a vehicle attended or unattended, standing upon any pottion of a
sfeet or upon any place within this Municipality in such a manner as to consttute a violation of any
sectjon of this Aftjcle, or left unattended for a period of twenty four (24) hours or more and presumed to
be abandoned under he conditions prescribed by Colorado Revised Sbtutes section 424-1102, as
amended, the officer shall require the vehicle to be removed or cause it to be removed and placed in
storage in tre nearestgarage orother place of safety designated or maintained by ttis Municipillity, and
the charges for towing and storage of such vehicle shall be charged to the owner of he vehicle in
