Product Description
Re liable Models F 1 FR and F1 FF Recessed Sprin klersare
quick response sprinklers which combine he durability of a
stan dard sprin kler wih the at trac tive lorv orofileof a deco ra-
tive sorinkler.
lhe Models FIFR and FIFR Recessed autornatic sprin-
klers utilize a 3.0 mm frangible glass bulb. These sprinklers
have dern on strated responsetimes in labo ratorytestswhich
are flN/e to ten times faster than standard response sprin-
klers. This quick response enables the Model FIFR and
FI FFl Recessed sprinklers to apply water to a fire much
faster fnn standard sprinkles of the same temperature rat-
rs
The glass bulb consists of an accurately controlled
amount oJ special fluid hermetically sealed inside a pre.
ciselymanufactured glass capsule.'This glass bulb is spe-.
cially constructed to prwide fast thermal response. The
balance of parts are made of brass, copper and beryllium
nickel.
Al normal temperatures, the glass bulb contains the fluid
in both the liquid and vapor phases. The vapor phase can
be seen as a small bub ble. As heatisap plied, tfre liq uid ex-
pands, forcing lhe bubble smaller and snnller as tle liquid
Fessure increases. Continued heating forces the liquid to
push out against the bulb, causing the glass to shatter,
opening the wateruay and allowing the deflector to distdtr
ute he discharoino water.
The temperafurdrating of the sprinkler is identified by fe
color of the glass bulb.

The Gost Effective Replacement for Schedule 10
Realizing the growing need of fire protection systems
in commercial and residential construction, Bull
Moose Tube has added Eddy Flow to its
comprehensive line of sprinkler pipe products.
Eddy Flow is a specially engineered replacement for
schedule 10, offering better flow characteristics while
providing design flexibility. This product is FM
approved, as well as UL listed (for U.S. and Canada)
for roll grooving and welding. Please check with
appropriate sources for upto-date listings and
approval information.
As an added benefit, it is more economical to use than
schedule 10 due to reduced delivery costs and ease
of handling. Furthermore, Eddy FloWs larger lD
provides an opportunity for downsizing and further
cost savings.

Firelock* products com-
prlse a unique system spe-
cifically designed for fire
Drotection services. Fire-
Lock full-flow elbows and
tees are a CAD-developed,
hydrodynamic design tlat
has a shorter center-to-end
dimension than standard
nttlngs. A noticeable bulge
allows the water to make a
smoother turn to maintain
simllar fl ow characteristics
as standard full flow flt-

Fittings
Firelock fittings are
designed for use o<clu-
sively with Sryle 005 Fire-
Lock coupllngs. Use of
other couplings or flange
adapters may result in bolt

Vlctaulic Firelock fittings
pressure ratings conform to

Firelockn Style 005 rigdd
coupling has a unique, pat-
ented angle-pad design
which allows the housings
to offset while clamping the
grooves. By permitting the
housings to slide on the
angled bolt pads, rigddity is
obtained.
The Firelock couplings
provide rigidity for valve
connections, fire mains and
long straight runs. Support
and hanging requlements
correspond to NF?A 13
Sprinkler Syslems. Angle-
pad desigm permits assem-
bly by removing one nuV
bolt and swinging the
housing over the gasket.
This reduces components
to handle during assembly;
speeds and eases installa-
tion on pipe grooved to
Victaulic specifi cations.
Style 005 Firetr ock cou-

ommended for uga

3.1.2.1 General Suitability
Fasteni to Concrete
When a powder-actuated fastener is driven into
concrete, the concrct€ around the fastensr
shank is displaced. This displaced concrete
compre€ses agalnst the shank crcating a fdc-
tion hold. In addltion, heat generated during the
driving process caus$ a sintering ot the con-
crete to the fastener.
A fastener driven into concrete is influenced by
the following fadors:
. Depth of penetration. Compressive strength ot the concrete. Faslener spacing ard edge distanceo Fastener shank diameter. Concrete aggregate

Fastening to Steel 3.1.3
3.1.3.1 GENERAL SUITABILITY
When a oowder-actuated fastener is
driven into steel, the steel around the
fastener shank is disolaced. This dis-
placed steel flows back around the
shank and into the knurling creaiing a
keying or in the case of smooth shank
fasteners a friclion hold. In addition,
the heat generated during the driving
process, at temperatures of approxi-
rnately 1650'F, causes partial fusion
of the fastener to the steel.
A fastener driven into steel is influ-
enced by the followlng factors:
. Bas6 steel thicknessr Tensile strength of base sted. Fastener spacing and €dge distance. Fastener shank diameter
