As observed on the site today, there are several large boulders where the design calls for wall
footings. These boulders are over five feet in diameter and are only partially exposed. As you
mentioned, your workers could not break the boulders with a 90Jb. pneumatic hammer.
We find it acceptable to dowel the wall footings into the boulders where they occur. The
following steps should be taken:
1. Remove all boulders that are smaller than the footing width.
2. Drill and epoxy footing dowels 9" into the boulder. The quantity of dowels shall match
that of the footing.
3. Drill and epoxy wall dowels 9" into the boulder. The size and spacing of the dowels shall
correspond to detail 54.
4. Prepare surface of boulder by removing excess dirt with a wire brush and washing it with
water.
5. Fill all gaps in boulders with concrete and prepare horizontal surface for the cmu wall.

Residence Addition with the condition that a plan of existing
iandscaping be submitted to staff to ensure that no landscap'ing
is dama!ed-or destroyed during construction. The additjons add
