The following was observed: 1. The structural framing of the residence is essentially complete. 2. The existing roof support beam that was reinforced with steel plates each side has thru bolt locations that vary somewhat from the twelve inch specified spacing. This is acceptable and the plates as installed are approved. 3. The intermediate stair landing framing which used Versa-Lam beams cantilevering from the face of the existing framing is acceptable as installed. 4. The main level stair framing is supported on Versa-Lam beams with diagonal horizontal bracing to the adjacent wall. The framing as installed is acceptable. 5. Vail. Colorado Samolino Descriotion Phase Con provided asbestos building material inspection and sampling services at the project site listed above. Materials chosen for inspection and sampling were those which are regulated by the State of Colorado and the EPA during building renovation or demolition. Materials were grouped and classed into homogeneous areas and material types by visual appearance, location within the building, and apparent age. This inspection was performed according to CDPHE and EPA asbestos materials sampling regulations. The client wishes to renovate the structure located at 1495 Lions Ridge Loop in Vail, Colorado. The property was visited on June 28, 2004 byMr. Douglas A. Close, a Colorado State Asbestos Inspector/Management Planner. The property was inspected on this date, and material samples were taken which were subsequently analyzed by a NVLAP accredited laboratory. Discussion & Recommendations Asbestos was found in significant quantities (>1olo asbestos) in the following materials (friable materials are in bold type): o Sheet Vinyl Flooring (white brick pattern) present in the east unit.. Popcorn Ceiling Texture present in the west unit. The materials in bold are classified as friable. Friability refers to the property of a material which allows it to be reduced to small particles by hand pressure alone; thereby releasing significant asbestos fibers and resulting in a health hazard. Friable materials are much more likely to release significant levels of airborne asbestos fibers and are regulated by the State of Colorado and the EPA during building renovation/demol ition. If the planned renovations will result in damage or disturbance of the two Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM); then these ACMs must be removed prior to disturbance by a licensed asbestos abatement contractor. If the ACM will not be disturbed by the planned renovations, it can remain in place without resulting in a significant T t I I I I I I t I t I I I I T I T t health hazard provided that it is maintained in good, undamaged condition. The popcorn ceiling texture present in the east unit contained trace quantities of asbestos. This material is not regulated by the State of Colorado or the EPA. OSHA regulations regarding personnel exposure still apply, however. Disclaimer This inspection was performed using non-invasive sampling techniques. This report does not imply, or guarantee that every material on the property, or in the property building, which may potentially have asbestos as a component has been identified and/or sampled. A guarant5re that all asbestos materials have been identified and/or sampled would require cost-prohibitive and destructive sampling protocols. Furthermore, identified asbestos containing materials may be in areas which are inaccessible or hidden due to their application during the construction process and their subsequent enclosure or covering with building and finish materials. Areas behind walls, inside chases, or other hidden, covered or enclosed areas were not included within the scope of this inspection, as destructive techniques would have been required to access these areas. These areas should be inspected whenever renovation or demolition activities are scheduled which may disturb the materials within or beneath these barriers. A.
