Re Vault Wall Modifications for Louver Openings

It was brought to our attencion that the three louver openings will leave otrly about two
inches of cooctete between of rhe tops of the openings and the bearing elevation of the
double tees. we tecomrneod that the ttnro exhaust louvers n€:u the ends of the south
wall be lowered by 2'-0" +/-, The resulting o*ro-foot deep beam should be reinforced
with two additioaallor$rudinal #5 bars above the opening and #4 dosed stirnrps at 10,,
oo. ceoter. The ceotet, inrke louver should be lowered by l'-C' +/- and the opening
should be centered directly between two double tee leg bea'ing pockets. This one-foot
deep beam should be reinforced with fovt additional #5 tongitudinal bars above the
oper''i.g; two top and two bottom. No stirrups are required if the opening is dead
center between the double tee beadng pockets as described above.

The project's precast supplier, Plum Creek Strucnues, prefers to use Precast double tees
for the vault roof structure iastead ofprecast dabs as shown on the Brown and
Caldwell design drawings. lbe double tee dternative is shown oa the Plum Creek shop
drawings dated August 13,2004. This change is acceptable to Brown and Caldwell.
Please note t}at Plum Creek Structures is responsible for t}le reioforcement irr the four-
inch deck topping over the,double tees. Their eagineer, Howard Knapp, has scaled the
calculations. Please consider the amched Plum Creek drawing as the contrect drawtng
for the placement of the topping reinfotcernent.
