Amendment to the 1999 N.E.C. Town of Vail Ordinance 10 -1 -6.
Overhead services are not allowed in the Town of Vail.
Underground services have to be in conduit (PVC) from the transformer to the electric meter, main disconnect
switch and to the first electrical distribution circuit breaker panel.
The main disconnect switch shall be located next to the meter on the exterior wall of the structure easily
accessible.
All underground conduits are required to be inspected before back - filling the trench.
In multi - family dwelling units, no electrical wiring or feeder cables shall pass from one unit to another. Common
walls and spaces are accepted.
NM Cable (Romex) is not allowed in commercial buildings or structures exceeding three (3) stories.
No use of aluminum wire smaller than size #8 will be permitted with the Town of Vail.
TOWN OF VAIL ELECTRICAL PERMIT GUIDELINES
All installations of exterior hot tubs or spa's require a DRB approval from planning. This application will
not be accepted without a copy of the DRB approval form attached (if applicable).
If this permit is for installation of an exterior hot tub or spa on a new elevated platform or deck over
30" above grade, you must also obtain a building permit.
If this permit is for installation of an exterior hot tub or spa on any existing deck or elevated platform,
a structural engineer must review the existing condition and verify that it will support the added
concentrated load. Please provide a copy of the structural engineers wet stamped letter or drawing
with this application.
If this is a remodel in a multi- family building with a homeowners association, a letter of permission
from the association is required.
If this permit is for a commercial space, two (2) sets of stamped drawings are required.

Dear Greg,
Per your request the following addresses the field modified supply, return and bar exhaust
ductwork sizing on the above referenced project. R & H Mechanical installed 18X15
supply and return ductwork from RTU -1 in lieu of the 30X10 indicated on our engineering
documents. Although the calculated free area of the installed ductwork is less than the
specified the static pressure and velocity variances between these two difference duct
sizes is negligible and will not have any adverse effects on the total supply air delivered
into the space. The balance reports prepared by an independent test & balance contractor
at the end of the project will establish that the specified air is being delivered into dining
room and kitchen.
In reference to the bar exhaust, again field conditions that we were not able to verify during
the design stage require R & H Mechanical to field modify the exhaust ductwork. Again
the free area of field installed exhaust ductwork is less than that specified on our
engineering documents. Since exhaust of the bar area is not required by the mechanical
code and was designed as a comfort system we do not take any exceptions to the slightly
reduced exhaust capacity that will achieved with the reduced exhaust duct sizes.

Dear Bob,
Regarding your letter requesting a `variance' eliminating the requirement for the type II
hood over the dishwasher. The building department rarely approves variances. However
the 1997 Uniform Mechanical Code section 105 does allow us to consider alternate
methods and materials, `if it can be demonstrated that the proposed design is satisfactory
and that the equivalent of that prescribed in the code has been met'. As such the system
designed for the kitchen in Bull Crab Restaurant is approved per this section. The exhaust
and makeup air provided is adequate as demonstrated by the balance report dated January
30, and your letter of February 18, 2004.

Re: Bull Crab Low Temperature Dishwasher Hood Exhaust

Dear Greg,
I would appreciate it if you could review this request for a variance to exclude the
requirement for a type II exhaust hood above the low temperature dishwasher per section
508.1 of the 2000 IMC at the Bull Crab Restaurant. The conditions in this particular
application which warrants this request for a variance are as follows. Included are the
hood manufacture's exhaust capacity calculations for the specific pieces of kitchen
equipment that are being installed under the existing 11' long x 48" deep type I exhaust
hood. The required exhaust capacity is 2,763 CFM. As the test & balance report indicates
the hood system is exhausting 3085 CFM. This is 322 CFM greater than the kitchen
equipment's requirements. The dishwasher is located approximately 5' away from the type
I hood and approximately 6' away from the cooler compressor's exhaust fan rated at 300
CFM. The kitchen's floor area surrounding the dishwasher and the exhaust hood is
approximately 400 sgft. with an 8'-6" ceiling height. This calculates to provide an air
exchange in this area of the kitchen approximately every 2 minutes. Because of these air
movement conditions as well as the proximity of the dishwasher to the type I hood as well
as the exhaust above the walk -in cooler I feel that there will be sufficient ventilation in this
area of the kitchen to compensate any heat and the minimal steam rejected from the low
temperature dishwasher. Therefore could the requirement for the type II hood be
excluded?

Attached are the revised Test & Balance report data sheets prepared by H -VAC.
Brian Topping did not decrease the KE1, it is within the required 10% allowable.
We did not decrease KE -1's capacity fortwo reasons. First being the face velocity across the
grease filters is right at 220 FPM which is perfiict. Second being as we discussed at our site
inspection meeting last week, we wanted a little excessive exhaust capacity to make up for the
low temperature dishwasher exhaust. What was revised on this report is the MAU capacity. This
was increased to 2,267 which is slightly above design capacity. With the CFM capacity of outsideintroducedthroughRTU-1 & RTU -2, 400 CFM & 300 CFM repectively the total make up air is2,967 CFM. This yields a 4% difference between the KE -1 & the total make up air. This is an
exceptable differential for our office and take not exceptions to this report.
